Chevy One Wire Alternator

Has anyone installed a Chevy One Wire Alternator.
I am going to completely rewire my 66 Short Bed. I have ordered the 21 circuit EZWire Harness. I am thinking about going with a one wire Alternator to simplify things on the charging side.
Questions;
1. Has anyone done this? Any write ups?
2. Does this eliminate the voltage regulator?
3. How much fabrication is involved fro brackets?
4. Any downfalls, besides it's a Chevy part?
Thanks

Here is the alternator we installed in our racecar ( a 85 mustang with 351) it was very easy with no modication, and the wiring was very easy. It does delete the voltage regulator. I plan on installing a crome version of the same alt. in my 66 when I get to that step. I'm sure there are cheaper versions out ther. I wouldn't hesitate using a one wire alt.

I installed one in my '64 and there was nothing to it really. I had to order a different bracket, though. Mine had one that didn't line up right even for the generator that was on the truck when I got it.
New bracket was about $30 if I recall.
OOPS! I see you have a 390. I have the original 292, so it's a different matter entirely I reckon.

Most of those generic Chevy 1 wire chrome alternators don't put out very much amperage at idle and low rpm. They are 100 amps but at idle only put out about 35 amps. If you are going to use a/c, electric fans and any other electronics, they won't keep up when the truck idles. If you get in a lot of stop & go traffic with everything on, the battery will drain. Find an alternator from a later model car with injection or one like racerx showed. They put out more amps at idle because of all the crap running.
Ford should make a higher amp alternator that brackets would probably be easier to get.
