Shifter Module

I'm runnin a 302 backed by a C4 in my '63 Uni. The engine/trans combo have around 150k miles on em. The tranny started missin 2nd gear in auto mode. Everyone I've talked to says the vacuum shifter module is probably bad. I called a local parts house today, and they have 3 different ones listed: a red stripe, a green stripe, and a black stripe. Anyone know what the difference(s) between the three are? Prices range from $18-$40. Is it just a quality thing? Or were different modules used for different year ranges? Thanks in advance for the help!

there are differences in vacuum.
you need to look at the one on your trans and see if you can determine the color of the stripe.

Thanks iceman. Any tips or tricks as far as removal and installation go? Or is it pretty straight forward?

So I crawled under the old truck the other day and wiped the years of leaking tranny fluid, oil, grease, and dirt off of the shifter module, and what do you suppose I found? That's right no stripe anywhere to be found. However, laying around my buddy's shop are several C4 transmissions that have not had the privelege of years of leaking fluids and road grime mucking them up. I did happen to notice that all of the shifter modules had a red stripe on them. Is this a pretty safe bet to put into mine? Or would it cause my trans to shift hard or early or late?

I guess if all else fails you could go ahead and install it and keep a close eye on it and make sure your not burning the fluid or something else. I used to live in Cheyenne back in the late 80's. Stationed at good ole FE Warren. Not a bad place to live but damn is it windy!!!

red is probably the most common one.
try one out, most likely its not going to kill your trans.
also make sure the vacuum line on your truck is not rusted, bent or has any cracks in the rubber parts.
maybe someone else here has a c4 in their slick and can tell you what one they have and how it shifts

FWIW my son is asst. manager at a FLAPS, he is almost finished with the installation of a C4 and 302 in his 66, He replaced the VM with a red striped one, said it was the only one listed for a C4.
