Was told on this board to find a replacement Engine for my 66 f-250 from the years 1965 - 1979, Well after the last post I scratched the idea of a a reman motor and this morning ended up buying a 300ci inline 6 from a 1984 f-150 with 107,000 miles on it with a 30 day warranty for $350.00 Now I know it's after the fact so to speak buy can anyone confirm my thought that I was told 65-79 was only becuse then you dont have to take emission stuff off. And not becuse it wont fit in... Right??
any advice, pointers, or anything special I need to know to make this work?
Thanks guys, your the best!

That should be OK. The 84 head does not have air injection ports, as far as I know. Now, the later intake manifolds have EGR port, which you'd rather not have. Perhaps your old one is OK.
In terms of the block and bottom end, you are fine. I don't know who said to look for a 300 only to 79. It was correct to avoid the 86-96 engines as I don't think you were wanting to upgrade to EFI.
You will definitely want to avoid the 84 carb, but they probably didn't sell that with the engine anyhow.
But more to the point -- did they do a compression test for you? That all that really matters.
$350 seems OK. It might just end up being a rebuildable core. But it might take you 100k miles. That's the chance you take.
Not that I want to steal business from this site, but fordsix might make good reading for you right now. You should consider what sort of ignition you are going to keep as well.....

Ya, FORD six.com is a great site for 240/300 info.
The engine you got sounds ok. Should fit just fine.

There are many owners of 300 sixes, injected or not, who have told me they are the best thing since sliced bread. Too each their own, I can still remember my old neighbour revving up his chebby six on cold mornings when I was a kid, and the unmistakeable PWWWWWT sound of myold man's slant six Dodge.
When I fired up the 351W last night, I near peed myself, I love that V8 sound so much.
You guys can have yer sixes.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
