New Wood Rails - see what you think...

Hi Guys,
My dad recently made these wood rails for my 62 flareside. He made them from cypress and I think they turned out fantastic. I need to put some finish on them but I have them placed in the truck so you can see. I really love them...
See what you think...
Kindly,
Danny

Maybe you could put some lettering on them , something to do with slicks.

Danny,
would love to see your album cover , signwritten on the door and rubbed back to give a bit of patina and then a clearcoat to seal it.
You have the truck and the music , now show it....promote yourself.
The timber would look good aged , haven't figured out how to do that yet on new timber, maybe some sour milk like they use on concrete blocks ....anybody know how.

I have seen wide grain wood like cyprus "flashed" with a torch to "char" that gives a board almost a 3rd dimension makin the grain pop...

Thanks again, everyone!
Gatkpartz6179, It's funny you say that. Those were my dad's sentiments exactly. I really wanted to use the carriage bolts though. I like that look.
8clt, I've actually thought about doing something like that, but not on my truck. There's a 49 F1 Panel truck down the street that I pass every day, and it'd look really cool fixed up some a nice old fashion looking sign on it.
Kindly,
Danny

Yep, those are very nice side boards. I have been thinking about doing the very same thing on my stepside.

You should do it, Don! I'm a big fan of the way they look...
Here they are now with finish on them...

Nice work that finish looks sharp it really brings out the grain of the wood. The light wood with the dark colored paint of the truck makes the rails really stand out.

Sweet. With those side boards, think how many more watermelons you can haul.....
Wait til BroncoTom sees those.

Those look really great! I just love them!
I had a black 76 Chevy 4x4 step side with board racks on it.
I actually got them from a guy who worked at Omaha Standard where they made them for stake bed trucks, he had made them for his truck but kept them when he sold it.
He did them in Oak and put the Omaha Standard Logo on them - wish I had a pic.

Thanks, guys! I've always loved the look of wood side rails. Now i'm thinking of doing the wood bed in cypress too, it'd match.
Kindly,
Danny

Looks great. I like the chrome carriage bolts, but maybe you could try painting a separate one black, and relpace one to see how black might look?

Thanks, guys!
Jerry, that's not a bad idea... I hadn't thought of that. I think i'm going to try that.
Here are some photos of the truck in the day light.
