Slick 60's

Hey guys, need a few opinions here, if you would. I ran across a 66 F100 4X4, that a guy has near me. It has a 390 4V from a 68 that supposedly runs good, C6, 9" rear, Dana front. Body is solid, but someone took a primer spray can to it....grrrr...Hate that!! Anyway, it's a custom cab, decent interior, doors close and open well, and are solid. Box is in great shape physically.Has the nice dual spear grille in nice shape. My problem is this: He tells me about mid way in the conversation that the body is on a 74 or 75 HiBoy chassis....Mechanically I guess it's fine, but I don't know about this idea. He wants $500 for the whole thing. Would it be worth it? Is this best used for parts? Don't know if I can post pics or not, but just curious. Thanks, Dave..

T hat sounds like something you should absolutely stay clear. In fact, give me the location of the truck and I will personally make sure that you are not tempted anymore by it!!!!!

$500, don't think twice. These things take alot of time but depending on what you are looking for, that sounds pretty cool to me. I have a 66 2wd on a 76 chassis and that is IMO the best swap that I could have done.

chassis swap is an easy way to get modern brakes, steering ect. I don't think there's any thing differnt in the frames from a drives point of view? Too bad a high boy was lost to the conversion.


What is you hesitation about the frame swap?? Are you looking for a restorable truck?

on second thought you should pass on that frankenstein freak and let me know where it's at so I can send the crushers to get it. after I run it for a few years. Let's face facts, the bed is worth that.. depending on location

It's exactly what I would do if I had any notion to own a 4X4 with a slick body on it. It doesn't get any better,
unless it came with a 460 for power, IMHO.

My questions are;
Why are you talking about it?
Why don't you already own it ?
And why are you not already driving it?

My 66 SWB ~SS/CC w/ 460 sits on a 79 F-150, SWB, Trailer Special chassis. I've had several conversions on
OEM Chassis B4. But now that I went that route. I'd do it again in a NY Minute. Mid 20th century Style with the
21st century technology & safety features & comfort, Why Not?

GRAB QWIK IT B4 SOMEONE ELSE DOES. . .

WOW!! Thanks for the interest!! I figured this would go over so-so, but I guess not!!! We're still negotiatiing, since I didn't hear back on my offer from the guy with the 66, I went out and bouight an 82 F150 4X4 for $300....now I'm not doing well in the truck buying budget...Anyway, we'll keep you informed!! Thanks a ton, guys!! Man, I love this place!! And yes, it WILL ALWAYS be ALL FORD!!!!

Problems with a 66 f100 4x4 are that the front end is a weird one only used one or two years and the steering box is prone to wearing out and rare and the transfer case is just a in and out box with no low range.
With your frame swap You get a Dana 44 front with disk brakes, power steer is a option and a 2 sp transfer case.
Sounds like a good deal to me
