140 AMP Alternator Fuse Requirements

Doing the 140 amp alternator install and would like opinions/experience concerning the Mega fuse I need to install between the alternator and battery. I may also install a mega fuse on the 10gage wire that currently feeds the cab. Thanks!

I went to a stereo store and bought a 200amp fuse and holder, about $30.

On the Thunderbird's with the factory 140 amp 3G alternator they used a 175 amp fuse. I have used that size fuse and a Buss Mega fuse holder on a couple of 5.0 Mustangs.

I also got some 2/0 cables made through that same company (I know, I know... way overkill) and here's what they look like and where I mounted the fuse block:

Dion. You ran a 2.0 cable from the alternator through the 200 amp fuse to the starter relay? I plan to use 10 gauge wire from the alternator through the 175 amp fuse to the + post on the starter relay. I use 2.0 cables on the starter and battery circuits and also make up some short ones for extra grounds. What size fuse are you using for the cab circuit? I'm thinking 100 amp on the 10 gauge primary feed (powers everything in the cab and all the lights). Thanks to all for the feedback.

Yup... I used 2/0 for all the power and ground cables - alternator to fuse, fuse to starter relay, starter relay to battery, starter relay to starter, battery ground to engine block, and engine block to frame. Like I said, I know I seriously overkilled it, but that's kind of how I roll...

I can't remember off hand what I used between the relay and the cab... I'll have to check. I do think I remember the previous owner not having a fuse or anything wired in place when I started digging around... silly bugger!
