Ok so I was at a car show Saturday and a fella pulled into a spot witha nice model T roadster. I got to talking to him about it and when he got to the engine he said it was a 454 chevy motor. I kinda smiled and said. "a chevy motor in a ford?"
he replied with a loud over Zealous laugh and said "only way to make a ford run!" he looked around for some support in his comment and got none.
Needless to say my smile was long gone. I thought for a second, then said "I don't know, it looks to me like that 9inch FORD rear end seams to be making your ford run."
he said well yeah im gonna get a 5 bolt to put under there.... mid sentence I walked away.
Why are chevy people like this? Rude?
I mean I personally dont like seeing to much of other brand domestic parts in our fords; but to each there own.
ive had many experiences with chevy people being pricks about ford vs. chevy.
Why are chevy people like this?

because they are still punch drunk from getting there asses handed to them by the japs. ford kicked their shit sideways in the 60's so they just limp in circles muttering under their breath about the "good ol' days". basically 1955 to 1956. lol

They did have to be rescued from Bankruptcy by the Govt. as well...

I always laugh when they pass rules at the local stock car track that ALLOW brand X cars to run Ford rear ends in them ..

What's a 5 bolt?

I don't really like that, either. When I run into that guy, I just roll my eyes. I don't have a brand. My other car is a Chevy, well actually an 88 Pontiac, but we all know it's the same thing with a slightly different body, and it has been awesome, too. It has a 10 bolt.
My brand is the one with a motor and wheels.

I've had one run in with a "Ford guy" who chastised me about putting a Chevy in my truck - he saw the distributor in the back. At first I thought he was joking but it became clear that he was absolutely serious. He was an older guy, too who was probably around when Y-Blocks weren't too old.

I had a Ford T-Bird bodied stock car sitting on a Crown Vic frame in 1992, built to IMCA rules. It had a 9" Ford rear, 351W Ford engine but a racing Powerglide tranny. That was the trick tranny to run then.

One night, all the Chevy guys came over with the Tech man in tow (tech man was a Ford nut and fellow Ia-Mo Ford Club member). He walked up, with all the bowtie goons behind him, and said, "Steve, we have had a formal complaint registered on your car running a Chevy Powerglide, how do you want to approach this?" I asked if I was the only car being protested and he said a fellow racer with a MoPar and a glide was also mentioned in the complaint.

I responded, "Sam, I have absolutely no problem removing the glide from our car and we will have a Ford tranny in it next week when we unload. I assume by my complying, they (the bowtie wearers) will also be agreeable to removing their Ford 9" rearends and Autolite 2bbl carbs (hot setup at the time)".

Sam turns to the crowd and says. "Boys, he's agreed but you heard his terms. I see nothing wrong with it so you will all have GM metric 10 bolt rearends and GM carbs on your cars next week, right?"

Crowd got pretty quiet, protest was withdrawn and everyone went about their day. You have to realize there is nothing wrong in their eyes using what they want to, but you had better agree with them or you are the jerk. They're only idiots.

Craiger. This is the reason I spend 1/2 my time at a show and shine turning and walking away. My big mouth has got me real close to a few fist fights, with the type you mentioned in the original post. Now I just shut and turn away. :cussing:

There are idiots in every group of enthusiast... Ford, Chevy, Mopar... any of them. Build what you like with whatever parts you like and who cares if someone else doesn't like it. I'm a Chevy and VW guy, I'm here because I'm restoring a '66 F100 at work and need help with the factory correct details. But I can appreciate the truck and I'm putting just as much into it as I would if it was a Chevy or VW. :D

Gotta be careful here with T Buckets.
First off a T Bucket or Fad T as they used to be called in the 60s are not a Ford.
Henry didn't build Model Ts with fiberglass bodies.
Secondly the first Fad T made before they were available had a Chevy small block in it.
Wouldn't that make the SBC the correct engine for a T Bucket?

I agree with all of you, im more of a keep a chevy a chevy and a ford a ford. Same with dodge. Cause I'm not bios, I love all classics. I mean my sisters 1950 f1 has a 10 bolt chevy rear axle under it. That's not how she wanted it but its what was under it when she bought it. Hell I've never been a camero guy till GM came out with there new one a few years back.

but guys :offtop:

my remark was why are chevy guys A-holes in regards to fords?

Example: when i asked him "why did he put a chevy in a ford," he could of said 'well ive always loved the chevy 454 and ive always wanted a model T roadster why not have both, ha ha ha'

instead he was a prick and said "its the only way to make a ford run! BA HAHAHA!"

un called for :cussing:

I know that all chevy guys aren't like this, one of my best buds a chevy man. The sh*t we give each other is all in good fun. We appreciate the other mans brand for our own reasons.

Though annoyed there was a chevy motor sitting in my be loved domestic brand ford. I was curious to know why he chose a 454 chevy. He didn't have to get pissy.

yeah,
One of my other replies to chevy lovers who get a little lippy is to mention that GMC couldn't even stay in business with out the help of uncle Sam... Well really it was china but we wont get into that. It really fires them up. And they never have a rebuttal that doesn't entail a curse word or 2.

I think its fare to say that from all of us here who are loyal ford men and woman that we all run into more lippy chevy lovers then ford lovers that we know or are friends with. Am I right?

I'll admit, I'm the kind of guy who will open that door. I'm the curious type, and if someone has a Brand X installed in their Slick I will ask the question. There are legit answers "I had it in the shop already, so decided to use it" or "I just always liked these engines" gain no quarrel with me even though I wouldn't do it myself. But, what I typically heard was: "Because it was cheaper to build than the Ford".

My pat answer: "Says a lot about the owner."

Haven't had the balls to actually say that out loud, but some day I'll find a guy who's smaller than me and risk it.

I guess I don't really understand a lot of the folks who get their britches in a ball over what someone else does. I'm a Ford guy, and have had numerous trucks, and just bought Mustang number 8 a few months back. I've also owned Mopar products, as well as a Trans Am and a Camaro SS. With that being said, I understand why guys put the LS motors in everything these days. It IS in fact cheaper to make more power with those motors. If you don't believe that, you're only kidding yourself. Spend some time at the track and see it live and in front of you. One of the fastest cars I know of is a fox body with a built LS in it. It's a beautiful platform for drag racing, period. Ford is just now getting back in to the game with the Coyote.

I guess what it boils down to, is I am a huge fan of live and let live.

And to address the OP, I imagine he gets tired of answering that very question when asked by rude Ford owners....Rude owners are as varied as the cars they are loyal to. Not saying he earned the right or should have been rude, just mentioning there is two sides to every story. Just my $0.02 on everything...carry on. :D

I just always say "Nice ride" and have never had any one be rude to me, chevy, ford or any other brand. That T-bucket owner may be on a chevy board asking why all those Ford guys are so rude with there questions about my engine. Thanks, Lyman.

I'll agree that a LS swap in anything is a good idea! But I can't see that the Coyote will ever be a popular swap. Very wide engines, and extremely expensive to buy and modify. The LS is smaller, cheaper, and extremely durable.

You misread. I agree with what your above statement entails, I was only saying Ford had gotten back in to the 'race' with the Coyote. The LS crowd no longer can say they are dominant. The Coyote is a force, and I don't say that because I own one..... I'm just saying Ford is back in to the game as far as factory power.

Very true, the new Mustang 5.0's run pretty strong dead stock. I'm a Chevy guy but they dropped the ball on the new Camaro. It's a tank! Way to heavy for a muscle car.
