Slick 60's

I ran into a guy at Taco Bell with a 66 short bed. Its a nice truck with the exception of the interior. He bought it off his neighbor last year and is getting ready to do some work on it.

The PO put a C-6 behind the 352 with a floor shifter. Im not sure what the shifter came out of but it has no indicator showing what position it is in.

We were talking about the best option to replace the shifter. The column is out unless it is replaced. The PO put in PS and gutted and shortened the column.

I thought a Mustang floor shifter might work but I have never seen one in a Slick.

Is that possible with a C-6?

Look at Locar, you can get diffrent boots and Position/gear indicators , you can get them that mount on the floor or mount on the tranny

The Lokar I had in my '57 was the right height and had a good "feel" to it, the drawback is it still didn't tell you what gear you were in. Yes, the pattern was engraved on the handle in the button, but it was more of a fee; deal.

I would think a Mustang style shifter would be too short to reach comfortably. Most trucks use a longer shifter handle.

Go to the street rod world. There are a couple companies that make shift indicator setups. There are column mounts (Lokar makes one that bolts to the column) and there are light units that mount in the dash (or a console) that light up with the selected gear. I'm planning one of the light setups in my '62 uni.

That's what I have , and yes, it's not very driver friendly! Way to low.

I think 80's and 90's Ford mini van had a Mustang like shifter, but 6 or 8 inch's taller. Thanks, Lyman.

I forgot about the Aerostar shifter and I used to own one.
