Your First Slick?

Post by azjake »

So, what was your first Slick? Ours was a 1965 F100 Fleetside Longbed with a 240 six, three on the tree tranny, manual steering and manual brakes. We named it "Low Tech" for obvious reasons. It was a rust free Arizona truck that the PO and his brother owned it for over 16 years.

Many, many years ago. Bought for $200:
Image
Used it for a year, then sold it for $300. :D
Bed was rusted out so bad across the front the sides were sinking down past the floor. 352 ran perfectly. I loved the thing but realized the futility of trying to restore it. This truck was the reason I sought out Big Red a dozen years later when I wanted another old truck.

I bet her Slick was a beat up yellow/white version. Did it look like this?

Image

She keeps wanting to sell it back to me. I don't want the truck back, but would like to have the CC instrument panel with extra factory Ford gauges out of it...

Hey Tom!

Nice dog/truck!

The next time you are in the area, let me know and maybe we can get together for a visit. Also, if you are looking for anything in particular Slick related, let me know. I can keep an eye out for them here.

Good thread and lotsa memories you guys have. I've had many vehicles in various states of disrepair over the years, most of them Fords. But my 'first' slick was my 61 uni longbox i bought from my neighbor for 500 bucks. Back in those days you could buy a good running old truck for under a grand, like i did. 240 inline, three on the tree. It was my first slick that i kept for several years with my first wife and both of my oldest kids. Sold it for a $1000 to one of my working buddys. To this day, i have very fond memories of that old truck. Now i have 'Limestone', and she is all i need.
Long live the 352

My wife and I have had many vehicles throughout the years, also. My favorites were a '57 Chevy convertible, '64 GTO, '66 Wildcat GS (the only year that the GS option was offered on the Wildcat!), '63 Galaxie Convertible, '64 Galaxie 2 door HT, well, too many to list!

BTW, you know what I like the vest about Low Tech, having the three on the tree keeps kids from stealing it! Most do not know how to drive them!

Got my first one off EBay the day before I got my heart shocked and "re-set" the first time. Paid $202.50 for it. Bought the Texas uni I'm building now and sold this one untouched. It had every factory rust option available, thus the move to the Texas truck. This is on the way home with it.
