I know that the T5 shifter is back far enough to not work well with a bench seat so I'm already planning to use buckets.
But I'm wondering about the actual location for where the shifter comes up through the floor. Will the shifter come up through the removable hump cover or does part of the floor need to be cut behind that? I will be getting the cab stripped and painted soon - and probably won't have the engine/tran far enough along to get accurate measurements on this so I'm hoping someone else on here can offer some guidance. Hopefully it will come through the removable cover opening and I can deal with it later (cutting hole in cover).
For reference, I'm planning on a 300 6 cyl with T5 and is for my '65.

Re: T5 shifter location
It seem like you should be able to measure side to side, & front to rear, on the forward and rear cab mounts on the chassis, locate the rear trans mount, then measure from rear trans mount on the tranny to centerline of shift handle. That way you should be able to transfer measurements to cab interior using cab mount holes in the floor pan and you should be pretty much in the ball park. Draw a small diagram on a sheet of paper and be sure to write down all measurements and measure before you cut. Measure before you cut !! Measure before you cut !! Measure before you cut !!

Re: T5 shifter location
I took care of the problem by switching to the c10 tail shaft cover. I have the original mustang tail shaft cover in the garage. I can get you a measurement from the bell housing to the hole center if you need one.

Lowrider -
I'm all over the concept of drawing that out and measuring as you have suggested but the problem is that I also don't know where the rear trans mount will land either - at least not until I get the engine/tran installed.
Yes, I could measure off the front engine mounts but without everything bolted up, I was concerned about margin of error on each measurements adding up ........
I guess I should at least run through it once - it might get me close enough to confirm if it will land in the hump opening! But that probably won't happen until next week as I have a major house project on tab for this weekend

Re: T5 shifter location
You are correct, I ment s10.
Doing a stint on nights this weeks and the grey matter is in shock.
As to the measurement :
The placement of the gearshift in nuetral, with the s10 tailshaft conversion,
behind a 292 y block, in stock location is @ 13 inches to rear lip of cover.
it's @ the same behind the 223 I6 (+ or - 1/4 inch between the both)
The s10 conversion moves the gear shift forward @ 6 5/8ths inch.
I used stock motor and trans mounts for both installs.
Your motor dimensions, with the stock bell housing, mounted in stock location, should line you up at @ 6 3/8ths forward of the cover lip, if your motor dimensions are close to mine.

Re: T5 shifter location
This is where mine ended up. Might not be similar enough to a '65 to determine anything, though.
You really should do a mock up to make sure everything is going to fit and to go ahead and cut the hole.

Re: T5 shifter location
Charlie that looks great, and you didnt need the trans cover, and it looks like it came that way.
Thats about where I figured it would end up. I just do not know if the 300 lines up to the same length as the 292 and 223.
