Just because people make enough money to live in a place like that neighborhood doesn't mean they have any common sense. It's beyond me why any one would buy a house in an area where they can be told what they can and can't do on their own property! I understand wanting to keep the neighborhood nice but I guess a really nice old slick adds too much class to that one house and makes the rest of the neighborhood look a little shabby.

HOAs transcend--descend?--such labels as liberal, conservative, democrat, republican, etc, and seem to be made up of busybodies with nothing better to do.

Growing up, my friend's father battled his HOA over a skateboard ramp he built for us kids. He found some obscure HOA by-law, the ramp stayed put, and my friend became a world reknown pro skateboarder.

Hardworking, productive young kid (a rare commodity nowadays) gets hassled by the so-called "powers that be". Makes me feel like fund-raising his parking fine for him, get a group of you fellow Slicksters together and we all deliver it out to his house in all our trucks.

It's to bad seeing how the rule probably meant no trucks as in semi's not pickups and he should fight that it is a pickup not a truck I doubt there's a rule saying no pickups he just needs to make sure it's registered as a pickup

Pretty common home owners association rule. Seen it where you couldn't have a boat, camper, pickup or utility style van on your property. Yes, it's your property but you knew the rules when you signed on to be part of the sub-division. If you didn't know it, then it's your fault. There are neighborhoods in Des Moines that won't let you have a camper, boat or work vehicle parked there.

Hate to look like I'm taking the HOA side but there's a reason for rules like this and that's probably one of the reasons his parents bought property in the neighborhood, it was a "nice clean neighborhood".

That's why I choose small town Iowa where these things don't happen very often. They've tried but it didn't get very far or they didn't make it past the next election.

Sad, but probably not much they can do about it,

I agree. The HOA regulations did not come out of nowhere. If no trucks are allowed, then no trucks are allowed.
His options are to get the board to change the rules, go to another neighborhood, or pay the fines.

That's why my house is in a neighborhood without a hoa.

Our HOA's rules say "no work vehicles" which they interpret to mean roof racks or ladder racks, but definitely no signage... The City had been trying to do away with trucks in general, but I think there are too many trucks for them to make that stick...

Wonder how many of these HOA members who are against the rule change own a Lexus, Infinity, BMW, Porsche, Benz, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota or Jeep SUV . Which when the last time I checked are really nothing more than a truck of a different color. Maybe Biff and Buffy might take a real hard look at what they own and give this kid a break!!!
