I have searched the forum but found no clear answer, I want to swap in a new tilt column from a 70's f100 with the auto tranny shifter on the column.
I just need to know what year of truck in need to get it from.
my 65 has original power steering, and I have a TCI C6 auto tranny
Thanks for the info in advance

Any ps column up to 79. I think tilt was only on the 78-79 columns. If you find the whole truck, get the delay wiper switch if it has it.
There may be some minor wiring differences if the donor column has cruise and emergency flashers on it. Also you may have to do some work to get the original steering wheel to swap over.

Ebay will likely have what you need. 78 has the ignition switch on the dash and 4 way switch on the column. Those are the ones I like. The switch on the column is OK and will work but this leaves the switch pocket on the dash. Another consideration is the wire chase on the 65/66 columns and the neutral start switch. I chop up the 65/66 column shell and keep the wire chase and neutral start switch mount. I also cut the shift tube to keep the switch actuating arm. After that it's just measure twice and cut once. A chop saw works well and any welder will be able to put it all back together. What you will wind up with is a combination 65/66 and 78 columns with tilt and 4 way on the column. The 4 way switch is really not noticeable. At the bottom I replace the plastic bearing retainer with a oak bushing with a 3/4 inch hole drilled in the center. The oak bushing is an inference fit into the bottom of the column. I use a hand grinder to cut the steering shaft to fit a DD Borgeson universal (DD on the steering shaft to splines on the gear Ford box). I also shorten the column shell and shift tube 2 inches. Another option is to simply buy a Ididit and be done with it. IMHO.
