Slick 60's

so we took a trip in my wifes car
... no ... its not a Ford
its a Buick enclave ...
anyway ... on the way home
it gets a shudder....
not much... just barely noticeable
but i could feel it ... and i could see the tachometer twitch (very small movements)
i blamed it on bad fuel
so i bought some fuel condiioner & filled it with premium
after a hundred miles .... no difference
so when i stopped again
& happened to ave the door open .... i noticed a whisper of a funny noise
tic tic tic
i asked " how any miles since you had the oil changed ? "
a couple thousand miles....
not bad... so i checked it ......
on the dipstick.... but a little low ... probably a quart & a half
so i topped it off
got backin and started.... no tic noise
got back on the road .... ran perfect
.......
are you kidding me ???!?

why the heck would being a little low on oil make a miss ?
no idiot light ever came on ....
there was oil on the dipstick ....
no way it could lose oil psi

did i mention im not a fan of modern gizmos ?

Unfortunately oil level and oil type is VERY critical on newer engines. They have variable cam timing that is regulated and adjusted with oil pressure. Even 1 quart low can cause issues. On any vehicle newer than 05ish I would only run manufacturer recommend oil. It may cost a little bit more but worth it.

you are correct i found out...

a fellow told me his Ford truck started missing after he changed oil
was a major brand....
as soon as he went back with motorcraft oil
the miss went away
