I am looking to replace the trans in a 59 f-100.I have heard that the toploader trans. are a good replacement. From what I understand the 6 cyl. that were used in the 61-64 series used these toploader style trans. Will I need to get the shift levers for this trans as well. The truck I am putting this in has a 292 v-8 and column shift.

Love the new site,Keep up the good work

if you were in Alaska you could have one for the effort of removing it as i have several of the toploader 4 speeds trans and a few 3 speed and column shift like yours.the 292 and 6 use the same bell so anything that fits on the 6 will fit on the 292

Well, not having done the conversion you need, I have several comments on possible problems. First, is the hump in the floor, on 64 is smaller on a standard shift as opposed to 4 speed. Assuming you are talking toploader truck tranny, and not car type. I don't know if the standard bellhousing is the same for both trannies, so there's another question. The one question I can answere, is the truck tranny has a shifter that comes up thru the floor. Most likely, you would need the floor hump out of a four speed truck.

Years ago, Ford made some four speed column shifters, or at least it was available in some applications. In my lifetime, I've never seen one of these. Even forgot where I ran accross this information, it's been many years ago.
