Slick 60's

Please keep in mind I've been a member about a week now...

Can someone please tell me why these trucks are called Slicks?

I've searched the archives etc. and can't seem to find out.

For the "slick" and rounded body lines. Before 61 and after66, the trucks were squarer. They are a very slick looking body style.

Slick (slik) n. 1. Any Ford Motor Company truck manufactured between the years of 1961 and 1966. This includes all of the various models and body styles; F-100, F-250, F-350, F-450 thru F-800 series, Unibody, Styleside, Flareside, Custom Cab, Crew Cab, Supercab, Long Wheel Base, Short Wheel Base, Ranger Option, and so on. It also includes the corresponding Mercury models and body styles. 2. A slang synonym for the word “cool”. As in “Man, that thing is really slick!” 3. Forget all the other definitions for the word “Slick” in your Webster’s Dictionary.

Not a dumb question! When I joined I thought about asking but waited on someone else to ask. I can't remember the names beginning but I thought someone mentioned that the truck was slick and the name just stuck.... I could be wrong but I'm sure someone will chime in and explain it.

Sinc - where is that listed? I could not find that info regarding Slick and the Ford moter Co trucks....

P.S. Urban legend has it that Wyatt (aka Chuck Miller) first coined the phrase "Slick" many websites ago.

durn double post

The short story about how the word "Slick" came into play was. There was, in the beginning, a club formed as a mailing list for 61-66 Ford trucks, and they decided they wanted a name, like the "Fat Fenders" have, to define these trucks. They came up with the word Slick 60s, as so eloquently explained by Sinc. And the rest is history. Now, even other truck sites use the word to describe these trucks.

Y'know all this dictionary talk has reminded me that someone.. Ripsnorter? was gonna do a wikipedia entry for the Slick 60's..
Just did a quick search and no wiki....

and we all know, no wiki, no laundly
