Slick 60's

hey guys,
i have a 1966 f-100 longbed. it has a push button right above the key ignition, any body know what it is or what it does. oh yea i'm keeping my truck now. got it running good now.

Hey Mike maybe I could stop by your house I live in Wilson near Nash street and Airport blvd I could take a look if your truck had clearance lights I would say it was the blick switch or it could be something a PO installed.

I think it's for the windshield washer.

Almost without a doubt, it is the windshield washer button. Provided your truck has the washer nozzles on the hood, the bag and bracket on the inner fender well, the pump on the inner fender well, etc.,..... it was the washer pump switch.
I went to a great deal of trouble to round up all the original items to add washers to my otherwise poorly optioned truck. I think whoever ordered my truck new would have opted for no engine if they could have saved a buck that way. Needless to say, the Windshield Washer option was not one of my truck's original items, but it sure is nice to have now.
If you determine that yours is the washer pump button, it may not take much to get your washers working again.

some had them some did not it is for the winshield washers i had a 65 and a 66 that did not have it i have a 66 custom cab that did have it but that part is missing

Mine had the button but it had been wired by somebody to be the ignition starter, (key provides power, button starts it up.) Has anyone ever seen that before, or only for the windshield wipers?

Mazlem, I had heard of that spot being used for the starter button, too. I just wasn't sure where I had read it, or what years/models did that. It may be that your truck originally was wired for that to be the starter button. You can probably tell from your ignition switch. If the ignition switch only has OFF position and RUN position, then the START feature had to be accomplished by the secondary switch.
Maybe it was the earlier '61-'63 or '64 that was like that

Yea, On my 66 F250 its for the windshield washer....but on the my 65 its my horn button!

Rare option for Nitrous injection. Don't push unless safely straped in.

The wiring in my '66 has been hacked up a bit, so I couldn't say what's original anymore. When I got it there were aftermarket squirters on the hood but no tubing and no bag.

The ignition is a generic switch put in by a previous owner. The wiper switch appears to be original, but only used for the wipers, not the washers as the wiring manual would suggest, (wires from the switch go to the ignition, ground, and wiper motor only.) I think when I put in a new ignition switch I'll wire the button for the washers.

my button is for spraying oil on the road so the bad guys cant catch me.

ohhh wait, mine dont even have that button...

And if you want to give that poor old switch a well deserved break add a 20 amp relay in the circuit to do the work and save your switch.
