Alright i know you all will hate me for postin this but I was just surfin the net and found a set of header flanges for a y-block for like 25 bucks and got the wierd idea that i might be able to modify a set of SBC headers to work on my trucks 292. but the question I have is what are the distances between the exhaust ports on a SBC. If it is close to a y-block I can bend and weld the pipes to the flange and get a cheap set of headers for the fridge.

Tim,
wish I knew. I know they do work for the Yblock, but don't know what needs to be modifed. They Yblocksforever site could answer that for sure.

if you can get them to fit, I can't think of a better use for a set of Chevy headers

I'm sorry Dave! I couldn't resist. It's a rainy Friday and I need a wee bit more sugar in my coffee.

Here you go. These were taken from Fel Pro 1404 header gaskets with a port size of 1.50" x 1.50" I measured from the inside edges of the ports.
If you can't read the numbers in the picture, they are like this, with the O 's being the exhaust ports.
O----5 3/16"----O-1/4"-O----5 3/16"----O

*NOTE: THESE ARE NOT FOR MY TRUCK.

No such thing as chevy headers. all headers are aftermarket so <manufacturer> bend tube for Ford, gm, dodge, etc to make headers. Buy what's close and modify to fit your Ford!

Alright a Y block is 4.75" between the outside and the center pipe and 1.25" between the 2 center pipes, it sounds slightly doable for me to do it but I wanted to know what you guys think. The exhaust ports are 1 3/8" rectangles. Basically what it looks like is i would have to bend the two center pipes apart an inch and it would pretty much fit right into the flange for a y-block. Keep your eyes open for a cheap set of longtubes for a SBC and I will try it, but saving money now to put seats in my boat in a couple months to get that ready for summer boating season.

Thats too easy, you can still chop up a sbc header and make a bong out of it or something.
