Dropped front of my slick

Post by 64kust »

hey everybody jus wanted to share that dropping a truck by yourself is not as easy as it sounds,,,i spent my superbowl sunday in the cold rain all nite long with a few wrenches n a couple of jacks,,,,would have been way easier with air tools but nobody could help me yesterday,,,,so i did it alone,,,1st time ever doing anything like this, all i knew was how it was supposed to look like in the end,,,i put the springs under the axle, pic in my photos

Do you have any pictures of it lowered now? We need some if you don't. :D
If you did the 3" Dream Beams then the raked look will look fine IMO. The dream beams IMO do not drop these trucks much at all so it's not a major problem with rake. The back tire tucks under the bed side wheel well anyways which makes the back look lower in the first place.

you could simply look under his profile for his pics.

Looks good Kust,, I think I would drop the back down some though if it were my truck. How's it steer?
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

twinn I bean, ( twinn I) looks great, I think you might want to forget about help from your buddies and do it yourself, lol I never ask for help anymore and just do it all by myself, i've become quite a Hermit. and very un-sociable but things get done rofl lose alot of sleep on work nights being out there until 11.12 pm because I forgot what time it is, then I find myself taking 6-8 month breaks and catching up with friends and movies, then back at it.

I'd take a couple leafs out of the rear at least to drop it a little. It will still have a healthy rake, just not look like it's going to fall over itself.
Twin I Beam suspension. Replaced the solid front I beam (single) axle.
My Slick is rustier than your Slick! :D

So wait did you do the twin I beam drop or is it a single I beam with leafs and you just flipped the leafs on it?
I am confused now. Sorry I did not see the pics and even look at his gallery.

Shawn F: He has a 64 which has a Single I beam front axle.

Compared to a 62, can I do that or should I just pull a few leafs?
Someday I'll get another slick :(

Thanks for the info. It looks great BTW. That is how low I want my 66 to sit so I will install my dream beams and cut a coil off my springs I guess to get it like that or close to it. My camber is already too much positive which is a bit odd because most of the time if they are off then camber is too negative. Not with mine. :D

i will assume the rear of your truck is basically the same as a 68 since i can't remember what the rear hangers looked like on my 64, but to lower the rear of my 68 3" i did a "half flip" of the front hangers. it only costs about 12$ for grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers.
just a thought. oh, i did need to shim the rear end 4* i beleive it was.

Sounds like it handles poorly.

I've seen photos of a 57-60 with an axle flip, but it had a c-notch in the frame for clearance, a relocated steering box to reduce bump steer, and a piece of channel welded to the bottom of the axle to act as a spring pad.

Keep in mind that you've now completely changed how your front end reacts to steering, suspension, and braking input.
