Slick 60's

I have seen many how tos on relocating the tank to the rear of the bed. Ive already prepared the rear of the frame to accommodate this. I just cant get over the idea of having the filler tube coming up the center of the bed. I had seen a post some time ago speaking of relocating to the tube to the drivers side tail light. Has any one successfully attempted this? Any suggestion on a different method, with details, would be appreciated.

1950's Ch---- had the tail light that flipped down. That was one of the things I did like about the 56 210 I had. I always wanted to fab one for a slick but stink as a fabricator. I'd buy one....................

I'm actually doing this now. I started this weekend putting the bed back on and getting the tank pulled back down. I'm using a Cougar tank so the top of thank sits just under the bedcrossmembers. the filler neck is right under the support at the 3rd set of bolts from the cab.
I intend on taking pics as I go, but it may take awhile to get them posted.
As far as the tail light, I'm planning to make the entire assembly tilt out and hold in place using a 1/4 turn type fastener. the hinge will be welded in, but the pin will be easily removed when needed. I have it in my head but it won't be realized fro at least a week.

Wow, Lonnie, looks great! Nice shop BTW, Did you fab your tank? I build tanks all the time for boats, aluminum and stainless.

Here is what I used. A 49-52 Ch*&% car gas tank. Fits between the frame rails perfect. Can still use my hidden hitch and the filler is to the side instead of on the top. The tank comes from Tanks Inc. an includes everything but the sending unit. It also gives you the option of carburetor or FI

It is 16 gallon and is only 7.5" tall so it doesn't hang down so far. The filler fits nicely through the opening between the frame rail and the bed floor.

For the gas door I chose a late model Aerostar because the gas door locks and is cable operated from the cab. In my case I plan on using a trunk popper solenoid hidden behind the rear tailight.

This was just my best option. I would be glad to share details with anyone interested. I do have a new Bronco II tank I was going to use but on my particular build it hung down too far. Make someone a deal on it!

Thanks guys. Yes i built it myself from 1/8 steel. It holds 42 gal. I dont like to stop for gas very much. Below are some pics.

Keep in mind i have a 3" body lift so i had plenty of room between tje bed and chassis.

I like the way Choppermike did his also. He did a good job. I have seen his on his personal album.
