Slick 60's

Hey ya'll. Ok, I got that LMC weatherstrip for the doors, but after several on here commenting about it being too thick, I think I'll cut my losses and try to sell it on eBay.

But when I bought the truck, he included some weatherstrip he had. I don't remember him saying where he got it, but it may have been picked up at a swap meet. So I decided to just go ahead and use it as it looks to be in decent shape.

Two questions:

• *Which side is the "joint" at. The inside of the door at the hinges, or the outside of the door at the latch? Where does it start?
  *Is there a right side and left side, or are both door strips the same?

Does anybody else cringe when somebody slams the door? I drove it one night and let my buddy check it out, he wanted to see the inside and then SLAMMED the door. Of course with no weatherstripping on the doors it really hurt both me and the truck. Then he is like shaking the door by the handle like he couldn't get it back open so I leaned over and opened it again and said, it's ok, there's no weatherstripping. What does he do? "oh ok" SLAM. Argh. I had to apologize to Little Black all the way home. I explained my buddy is a Camaro guy and doesn't know any better and I promised to get the weatherstripping done this weekend.

the ends come together at the front next to the hinge. They are mirror images of each other.

Trust me, installing the gaskets (if they are ANYHTING like the ones from MAC's- ie really dense foam with molded solid rubber corners) will make the head banging 5x worse. I had to slam the living hell out of my door for about 6-9 months before it would shut right, still a bit firm, 4 years later. It was such a PITA that I never got around to the passenger side. It rattles loudly, freaks some people out, whistles, etc, but i dunno.

and the rubber vent window seals from Mac's suck butt too. They were so tight and sticky that I broke the driver side window trying to shut it, then 6 months later, they were cracked and falling apart.

He being a Camero guy says it all. He is used to slamming doors and pulling on the handle to make sure that it is shut. I goes to the quality of the construction of the car. Forgive him for he knows not what he does.

Do no buy the cheap weatherstripping. I made the mistake of buying the vent window weatherstrips for my 66 and they did not last a year before cracking and splittting.

I didn't buy it until AFTER I joined this site and then some thread came up about it. So I didn't know until it was too late.

a man told me to rub door rubber down with johnsons baby oil after installation. it softened it up and doors closed with an easy slam. worked for me.

Haha, I was gonna start a thread asking if there's a certain way to install the door rubbers after reading that other thread and deciding its time I get it done. Decided to search first and found my OWN thread where I already asked this, haha. Ok, so I have a bad memory.

Is there any secret? Any way to know exactly how it goes or is it pretty self explanatory?

Thanks. Oh and should I wait? I'm hopin' to go get a quote on getting it painted. Should I do the rubbers after its painted or go ahead and do it now? I don't plan on having it jammed when they paint it.

I would wait until after it's painted to put on new weatherstrip. So you don't end up with overspray on them.

Good idea. The truck has been without weatherstrip for over a year, what's a little longer.

dc all the way I just put a set on and i adjusted my door in at the hinge and strike plate let set unopened for about 3 weeks adjusted the door back out and they shut with ease also on the corners i taped them back because they tried to fold over and only did about a foot at a time
