Cruisin to ss-2 with a VERY pregnant wife at home, feeling kinda guilty, yet wanting to ''meet'' the family. The shit-eating grin on jc's face sitting behind the wheel of the holy grail''f-100xl''. Laughing to myself watching grown men race valve covers on a derby track like we did in cub scouts.

Garbz' SRS radio flying out the window of the Goat Truck.
Puke-Fest (you had to be there).
Our detour to see a member in Ohio and driving down the small town street lined with American flags. Very cool.
That was all before we even got to SS1.

Cruising down the highway to SS2 in York with Greg M , Matt and his son Nick, My Brother Don , and My Wife and I. Had a high dollar SUV go by with the people turning around giving us the thumbs up as they went by. We can not forget My truck dieing on my twice and the first time Chad and a few other came back to rescue me and then on the way back to the hotel it quit again and Fanatic coming to help. I can not believe how many fuel filters we went through in York.O ya and my fuel pump giving up on the East side of Indianaplois on the way home. And we will never forget standing in the rain the nite the XL arrived
Setting in the parking lot at all Three Events visiting with some of the best people on this Earth.
Just the trip to SS 3 was an adventure in itself. If it had not been for the International Carb rebuilding team Don and I might not have even gotten there.Crawling around on the ground looking for a little spring from Dons carb in a rest area on I-35 and totally gutting a new carb and a old carb on my truck and making One decent one out of the Two all while setting on a of ramp with cars and trucks whizzing only a few feet away. CD Hermann loaning me a carb to use while we were there just so we did not miss out on any cruises and then digging through all his parts that nite and finding me another one and making me one heck of a deal on a great carb............
I will never miss an Event

SS1... Vinnie all the way there and all the way back, what a great guy to travel with. Meeting everybody for the first time.. The international parts exchange... sent my moldings off with Garbz. Chuck and his great ideas...Dane's beauty of a truck... Matt's Hog barn...Kids garage with the chop top....Merle's beautiful rig, I was scared to even get near it... Gerry and I standing in the hotel parking lot when everyone took off to a cruise and left us behind...The tornado...Sincs cheeks hurting from smiling.. Loading Rays truck, and of course the LTD/uni experience
SS2... Flying in over 3 mile Island and having Varney pick me up at the airport, Dwight still the smoothest shifter of a 3 on the tree I ever met... Tim Fanatic and his semi running fuelie, all the filters guys used... driving a lot of guys trucks... biting my lip when Larry turned up with the brandX... joking with Banjo at the restaurant that it was his turn to pick up the tab with 50 of us there... OF COURSE the XL and farmer Bill... Christine... walking Tim thru Gettysburg in the dark.. banjo's uniform... riding in Merle's pro street.. Carls fun '57...Charlies uni, Wyatts Italian sausages on the Barbie, the black truck that pulled up with the hydraulic front end and box...Lyman at his funniest, Chucks tour of the town, and reverend Jim
SS3.. getting to see everyone again... tour down with Dean and Ruby... Heartbreak at Rays in Wyoming...Tornado chasing us out of Nebraska..losing the air conditioner in my car 2 hours out of KC... Brian the iceman,,,BBQ at Dave Hermans'... Fred and his rig... Cam and his all-original beauty...Mike ratfink and Max.. both Maxes in fact... Tom and his ever growing collection of cat turds.. Doug's beautiful ranger,...a Canadian contingent for a change.. Gerry and his tophat and ahooga horn ..Alan and lyn... Merle getting up in the morning, having a stretch,, and driving 15 hrs to SS for something to do..Invading LMC and the Drag races...Pat and Colleen and Santa Gary and Ezer.. what a group of characters there. Surprizing Rose and Greg on our way home,My wife actually having a good time for most of the trip!

SS-I:
The whole thing was memorable. The trip to and from was great with all the trucks lined up going down the road. I remember pulling in and Kid waving his arms as if he got to see a long lost friend. Of coarse I was just as bad hanging out the window waving as Chad drove Betty into her last leg of the adventure. Getting out shaking hands and putting faces to names you only knew from the internet. Watching Vinnie pull in with Stella and unloading her. And I can't forget Merl cranking big blue up in the trailer to back it out. Very good memories from SS-I. I'm glad I got to be part of it. Lots of good memories, like the storm the night we went out for supper and Chad drove Betty into the water up to the dang headlights and she just tromped right on through it. All I could think of was how long it was gonna take to walk home from Iowa
SS-II:
Working with Bill and Jim to throw everything together and hope that all would be satisfactory for the gang. Building the race track from scratch with no plans. Turned out good enough for grown men to turn back into little kids again. I hope that part of all SS never goes away. Watching Robin waving her arms from the passengers window while kid and the gang came tooling down rt 30. Cooking the sausage and hamburgs was a lot of work but I didn't mind it at all. I knew I was saving everyone money for meals and we could walk around and talk as loud as we wanted and not have to worry about other people. And of course the entrance of the XL-100. Made grown men stand out in the rain and not complain. The late night chats. Then it all came to an end with one lost soul standing. The great pleasure of rounding him up for a 1 on 1 tour of the great town of York. It was great. Sorry I couldn't mention all the fun but man, It was great. Did I mention the word great?
SS-III:
It sucked not being there. The sitting by the computer and staring at the monitor hoping for up dates. I knew everyone was having fun as usual too. I felt rejected. It ain't gonna happen for SS-IV. I'm gonna be there with my friends.
Sorry for being so long winded. But there's so much more I wanted to say. I missed a lot.

first off the ride up there was a adventure (SSII), everytime I'd come to a stop praying it wouldn't quit...1 foot on the brake and one on the gas...limping in the hotel parking and after a brief introduction and hello's it was like a pit crew going to town and the first of fuel filters and trips to the Advance auto parts store across the street. Meeting people I never met but felt like I always knew them. looking under hoods and never getting tired of it. The trip to the Harley plant. Invading the cruise night across the street and Merle taking a trophy from it. All the trucks we never knew but showed up anyhow. I could keep going.....

There are certain things you remember associated with certain people that you would never do otherwise.
Mike Kimbrell.. Starbucks coffee. Mike brought his own industrial coffee pot to SS2 (and probably 3) Can't go to Starbucks without thinking of Mike.
Sinc and the Lobster. I will never see another Lobster and not think of Kid and Bill's bet at SS2
Rainstorm and Sirens. SS1 there were air raid sirens going off... we found out later they were tornado warnings. Rained like hell.
NASCAR and Merle. Air raid sirens going off all over , all he was worried about was getting to a TV so he knew who won the race SS1
Drag racing and Max... whopping those new Chebbys with a 300 six in a bumpside SS3
Any kind of downhill racing and Truckfarmer.. brought the track 2 of 3 times to SS for the valve cover races
Pat and Louis Armstrong. Man, they sing the same. From SS3
Hoofbeatracer and Hulk Hogan.. buy their Bandanas in the same store. SS3
Lyman and airports. You had to be there.. SS2
Wayne and CNC milling..... SS2
there are many more but I am out of time

I was formulating a whole paragraph in my head - you said it one sentence.Kid wrote:I guess after some thought the best memories are the people.
+ 1: actually driving my truck there - was a small way of making it up to myself for not just jumping a plane to York in 06. It would have been the best thing for me then.

LOTS of memories that will NEVER be forgotten (this one mostly)
I just found this site about 1 1/2 years ago...but did make it to SS 3
did you ever listen to a disc jockey and get an impression of him, in
your head, then after seeing him, wasnt quite what you had suspected ?
had read many post on this forum from a guy that lives in Alaska, and when you think of a fellow that drives a towtruck, chops and splits wood,
works on trucks, while in the wilderness of Alaska....In my head i am thinking 6 foot 4 , paul bunyon.
so i get down to Kansas city not knowing ANYONE by face , or real name,
but the group takes me under their wing, and it seems like i am with old friends. I listen to some of the best stories ever . and this one guy starts telling about some people taking pictures of Bears...
i will tell you right now ICEMAN is not 6'4'' .......
met a lot of awesome folks there, hate to start naming them, cause i know i would leave somebody out......
SS IV ? can not wait !

my first ss memory is walking off the plane and seeing Gerry (casey) in his Slick 60s tophat.
wont forget riding in Merles truck. or driving an almost new mustang (on the x-way even) belonging to someone i met only a few days before.
sunday night chat, Alan and I took over the hotel puter and several beers, some attendees were already home, and others were still on the road at hotels.
only 18 months to go till Ankeney and SS 4.

SS3 - proud member of Canucks without trucks. Hopefully the last one like that. Being greeted by the gang at the hotel just like an old friend, Gerry, Garbz, Mike K, Doug, and the rest. Meeting all the Sunday nite beer drinking chat buddies, endless parking lot tailgating and story telling. Pat's valve cover, Alan's vegemite at breakfast (shudder), riding with Merle and Doug, Dean powershifting Chris' Bump, BBQ at Dave's, tormenting Fred about his Uni, bunking with Iceman, harassing JC, the list goes on and on.
18 months to go till Iowa, I better get the truck going again. Can't wait to see everyone again and meet some more.

It's hard to say! cause one thing that made it great was to bring my wife to your wonderful country and let her experience it, that's why we are coming back in 2010, she loved it! The other reason is to catch up with our new old friends. Darrell & Robbin were the first we met, which really brought it home that we were really there!! I still remember sitting across from them at a Macca's over a coke 7 they both had this puzzled look on their faces every now & then, we probably did too. They hadn't spoken to many Aussies and we hadn't spoken to many Americans, come to think of it that happened for the next 7 days. The next day Kenny (castruck1964) booked into the same motel at Colfax Iowa as us. Boy did I have a time convincing the desk clerk that I knew him, I didn't know his real name, I didn't know what he looked like, where he was from other than Canada, and had just booked in. She ended up getting us to meet in the lobby - just in case . We had a great night at Darrell & Robbin's where they put on a barbie. More new friends were made that night, Don, Wes & Lance. Even the mozzies were friendly that night! Our trip the next day was eventful to say the least & has been well documented by others. On arrival at HoJo's our heads really started to spin trying to meet & remember everyone name & with a welcoming I don't think we have experienced for a long time. The hotel was abuzz with excitement and that lasted until Sunday morning when the water works started, it was hard to say goodbye. The sight in the carpark was hard to believe I must say, Slicks everywhere! the most I had ever seen in one place was in my driveway and that's only 2.
Putting a finger on what was a highlight is impossible.
When the Herman Family invited 30 plus strangers into their home, feeds them & plies them with alcohol.
When a Kansas wheat farmer & a Canuck oil worker get up & sing karaoke (one more than the other) to a bunch of let's say Merry Slicksters, they say one of them never had a drink out of his hand the whole event.
And talk about stop-ups 3& 4am I've heard some say.
Okay Vegemite wasn't the bit hit we hoped it would be, ever heard "that's too much" Mark? oh well
When a slopping piece of plywood can turn well grown men into giggling boys.
When a Pro-Street Slick drives off with the hotel manageress for a short but loud ride and a comment is heard "You 2 have a good time & don't come home late" I think that's how it was said
When you go out to dinner with friends and you fill the restaurant.
When you are in a strange place and all of a sudden you hear a voice you can understand like the ringing of a bell - Hi Rose!
When you just have the best time of your life,
THANKS!

I was looking around to see how to get in touch with other slick owners around Kansas City when I ran across something about SlickStock...and the next meeting just happened to be in KC!
Thought I'd check it out.
Pulling into Dave's driveway for bbq on a beautiful Missouri summer evening and seeing all those slicks lined up -- like entering a parallel universe!
Never dropped in on a friendlier, greater bunch of folks! I'll definititely be around more than part-time for the next one.
