Slick 60's

I don't remember which thread, but seem to remember someone used a LTD for the front end? Can someone please tell me more?

I think I remember that but I thought it was Lincoln sheet metal front and rear.........................................

Kid... the whole frame? you can do that?..thats the kind of info I would like as I wouldn't have guessed you could use the whole frame... is there a thread for it?

LTD and Mercury are 1in differance in wheel base that a short Slick. I have done this swap also foodstick and Matt and a few others. Make sure you use a 80's and up car as the older ones have a longer wheel base and will mess things up unless you want to redo the box.........Kid

I think the first quote is answered by the second quote. Based on the information supplied I would say it's a good idea too keep looking.

$150 sure is cheap though and that makes it tempting.

the first was based on a short slick, mines a full sized..that said the numbers I can find say its(LTD) 10" shorter than my long bed....121 vrs 131.

Now to play with a pencil and paper and see if taking 10" off the bed looks to wrong

Didn't see it mentioned anywhere in this thread that you were talking longbeds so I assumed shortbeds as I knew that's a good fit with the LTD frame.

Here's a nice reference just incase you hadn't seen it before. I found it helpful when planning my project.

I'm open to changes however I do have a long bed, though a buddy of mine likes the looks of the short/stepside...and hes a chevy fanboy.

I tell you this with complete knowledge of the situation so take my suggestion, if you want to:

IF the steering box is BEHIND the front axle, meaning NOT in FRONT of the wheels, RUN LIKE HELL AWAY FROM IT.
You will curse the day you bought it thinking you would be able to simply drop the truck body on it. It WILL take SERIOUS MODIFYING to make it work.
It can work, but you should REALLY consider buying a frame with the steering box AHEAD of the front wheels.

I know that when you type in all caps it is considered shouting, sometimes it is rude... In this case it is the stress how committed I am to this belief.

*LOL* ok, though off hand I can't think of to many that had the box in front of the wheels...but I'll add that question to the email list of questions I have for the guy.

longbed slicks are not 131", 61-63 were 122", 64 was 128" and 65/66 129"

so a cab with a 61-63 long flareside, fridge bed or a uni would be only 1" off.

i still would follow what Matt has to say on the subject,since he has hands on experience with car frame slicks

I plan on keeping that in mind (steering box), however I haven't heard back so for that LTD it may be moot.

As for the a3a I found that in a thread here someplace...at 129 i'm only 8" off, which is still pretty doable.

Yep, too long for a shortbed, too short for a long bed. Been there, still there...

Matt it looks like you are fabbing everything but the wheel fenders..nice idea to a lengthy problem
