Slick 60's

the house next door caught fire! good thing my wife is a night owl. she came running in and woke me up about 2am shouting that the house next door was on fire.
it was burning like all get out when i went outside and it was on our side of the house. she had already called 911 and the neighbors were out of town so no one was home.
i had her move her car so i could get my truck away from the house. my driveway is only about 15' from where it was burning.
i didn't get any pics of the flames. i was too busy moving my stuff. i did get some shots of k.c.'s finest in action though.

I'm glad no one was hurt, but I feel so sorry for your neighbors.
A loss like this can be devastating.

12 years ago last week lost 99% of our stuff in a house fire. no one came to help put it out. was in the morning. still remember trying to hurry up and move the bus and truck. bus got some melting of the plastic lights.
be glad the FD came and put it out , i was at your house and seen how close they are next to each other.

Good to hear all is OK. Weird this came up and then ICE mentioned the bus..

Just the other night ant my nephew's 20th birthdat party we talked about what happened when he was only a month old, our dairy barn burned down... Wow what a sad day, was like loosing a member of the faimly. No animals were inside only machinery but very close to the barn was a pole barn with 4 of dad's school buses park inside.. My cousin arrived and got them moved. They had melted paint, melted tail lights and cracked glass. It was a Saturday, we had them ready to go Monday morning.

yeah, it was pretty crazy. fifteen feet doesn't seem like much when flames are shooting out of a broken window. i actually had the garden hose out and was spraying like mad. i know it didn't really help, but it made me feel like i was doing something until the fd showed up.
and i feel bad for the family too. the house is a total loss. what didn't burn is totaled by water damage. they have three young girls. i'm sure all of their stuff is gone.
on the positive side, they are bosnian immigrants and they have a pretty tight community so i figure it won't be long until all of their needs are covered.
they don't have a cause yet, but remember to shut off all of those appliances before you leave on vacation guys.

that sucks.... at least your wife discovered it in time to keep your truck and house from going up too....

Believe it or not, you using the garden hose probably did help. A fire left unattended, will double in size every minute. Just don't get yourself in a dangerous situation while trying to help. The house can be replaced.
In December, I responded to a volunteer fire dept. call only to find it was my daughter's 2007 Dodge Caliber. She was at a friend's house and the homeowner kept the fire from spreading until we got there.

At least you and wife got out. I really hate house fires. Glade to hear all is safe, now is the fun part repainting the side of your house from all the peeled paint (hopefully it didn't peel the paint).

I've got a house on one side of me that's about 15 feet away, I've had this scenario run through my head more than once. I'm glad you were able to save your house, it's bad enough that you neighbors lost everything.

talked to my neighbor today and he is still in shock. i just reassured him that he is blessed to have been away and that his family was safe.
also a police detective came by to talk to me about any suspicious activity.
it seems that it started in the basement and they cannot find any electrical or other obvious source for the fire. they are still investigating obviously, but seem to suspect something fishy.

We are in west Texas,so the fire place gets cranked up every time the temp. falls below 50 degrees. My worst nightmare is a housefire, my family could sleep through a tornado. I myself am a nightowl. We really like a nice hot fire that will burn all nite before we go to bed. God bless the nightowls! Thank God noone was hurt.

hope it wasnt something fishy.... that would suck.

My best guess is something got too close to the waterheater????

But truly I`m glad everyone is safe, and there were no truck injuries
