I just picked up some hose that the nozzle on the gas pump fits into(tightly) and plan on running it inside the big hose and to the tank. I'll force the beast to take fuel LOL!

It did work. In fact I can't wait to try it at the pump. The other day I took the 5gal gas can and dumped it in and had no problems. The gas can was pooring as fast as it could. I need to do this to my 64 as I have to fill it on the slowest setting there is and stop/wait stop/wait... :)

The Bronco II filler hose I have is setup with a larger rubber hose, about 2.5" diameter with a 1" diameter hard plastic line inside it. Larger line appears to be the vent, smaller line the actual gas filler piece. Which sounds like the same system you are thinking of Fanatic. I haven't tried to fill it to see that it still works, but seems like it should.

Finally I got a windshield and the rear glass installed. Dang that was a pain trying to find someone willing to do it. The glass company that was at pate said they would not install the windshield they sell unless I brought the truck to them. Something about having to have to people to do the job and the cost for install would be $200+ (I smell BS and called them on it. They still won't do it - oh well moved on)...

I found out that my windshield had been broken. :cussing: There was a bed bolt sticking up and I guess a kid got in the bed of truck and steped on the glass. Oh well... The guy I got to come out got me the new windshield for $100 and installed it for $50. Cool

Image

Rear window. Yes I could install it but I tried and got so pissed at it I stoped and let the pro do it.. ha.

Image

Anyone noticed it has been installed from the outside.. dooffff. I called the glass guy back up and he said that he would fix. He had looked up a 67 instead of a 65 but he came out and fixed it and was a great person about it all.

Image

His Name is DeAnglo @ 972.814 – 7913 for all you guys in the DFW area. :)

I also got the side emblems installed on the truck. The inserts were 2nd's I got from DC @ pate last year. I now know why
they are 2nd's. I kind of like them as unique.

Image

Image

Image

I also took a test drive a couple weekends ago around the block. The CC did good but was windy due to no windshield.
The tranny did shift into 2nd (acutally went into third when I looked at the data logs). About mid way around the block
it started having problems and would just barly get above 1500 rpms. Got it home and parked it. Looking at the datalogs
last night it looks like the computer activated the egr (at least it thought it had) so that is why it was ruff running. Even last night sitting in
shop it was rough on rpms. I did find that the egr was still enabled so I disabled that and reflashed the computer.
I wasn't not able to make anotther run but will try tonight.

I did also get the windshield wipper installed but learned my motor is 180 out. GRRRRR I will have to fix that. You
can see that in picture above.

I wound up with some small tears in the rubber seal from reinstalling my back glass. I used a nylon line that was too small. Not sure what the perfect size cord is that won't tear but is small enough it will pull out.

Truck looks very good.

Did lots of things to the Crew this weekend, I test drove it again with only little to no go  I did figure out that the VSS was not grounded. This was making the computer think the truck was not moving. I also did a self-test on the computer which told me the Transmission speed sensor wasn’t working and come to find out it wasn’t grounded either.. grrr I did replace the VSS and TSS just to see if that would help. Replacing the sensors did help and the ground but still having problems driving.

The more I looked at the data logs the more I think my Mass sensor is not right then I remembered that this same sensor was on the Lucile (my 64) and it got replaced cause of strange things like I’m having now. I have another sensor on order and will try it later this week.

I started working on the wiring for the power window switches. I choose to put this switch up top since there wasn’t a good place for it on the door. This is a switch from an explorer I think it controls all 4 windows and has a door lock/unlock on it. The switch is great I do not have to have relays if I don’t want them.
Image

Image

I did make the bracket out of flat stock and some small angle I had. Figured this was the easiest way to mount for now. I will have to rethink it some when I do the head liner.
Image

Image

Now comes the driver mirror install. This is a Junior West Coast Mirror from AWdirect.com (see link below). I like these type of mirros and bought this one a long while back. I taped everything up as this is freshish paint. Marked the holes and drilled them.

Image

I had to ensure the vent window could open and it did.. :)

I still need to fix that window wiper motor having those wipers in view (off position) is really starting to get me. But all in due time, hopefully this week I will get the parts needed to finish the AC install then charge the system. That will be fun…but until next update….

It's been a while since I updated this. All is going good on the progress, I got the electric windows switch working and all 4 windows go up and down. Wiring those back to were harder than I thought it would be. There was no passage way down the column.. Oh well small hole at the bottom of column. I got the rear (passenger) bushings replaced finally. I also have the passenger mirror installed now still need to adjust that some. I also should have the rest of my hoses for AC this week.

I also was working on the tune (with a tuner person to help me get this right). Everything was going good then found the TFI ignition module was on the out so I got that replaced. Was still having problems so I reset the timing to 10 degree's as it should of been before the bad TFI. Truck running better after setting the timing. Was doing some WOT pulls as I needed the data to set the fuel in the computer. The last run of the day and it was running like eewwwww.... hardly made it out of the drive way then I see this white stuff coming from the back (tail pipe area). Humm I see it but it disapears quickly. ok get back home now. pull it into the shop and looked at the smoke (yep still there). Then I feel it and my hand gets wet, 'Crap its steam'! Grabbed the trouble light and looked under the hood. Water dripping out of the Driver side exuasht. Not much but still dripping. Long story short hopefully I just lost a head gasket. GRRRRRR I just replaced that not long ago dang TFI.

Will I make it to SS5 yes I will. The CrewCab maybe not depending on what I find wrong in this motor of mine.. :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

The engine did have a blown head gasket... (top of center hole, just enough to allow colant into the cylendar).

Image

Pic of heads removed.
Image

Found this nasty scratchline in number 8. It is not shallow for sure so the short block is going to the machine shop friday. Hopefully I will be able to get it back and still have time to finish the truck before SS5. I won't stop trying. :) If the CrewCab doesn't make it to SS5 I will be slick less as I have not been able to prepare the 64 for the trip, my wife said I have all my eggs in the crewcab. ha

Image

In the interm I will fix the wippers, finish wiring up the AC system, install the glove box, door locks and eletronic unlock/lock. That is all I have left to do (without an eninge) the only other thing to do is set the speedo got to have an engine to do that. :)

Well all the machine shops I called in the area had a 3 to 6 weeks lead time and that was still a maybe time frame. So I broke down and ordered a long block (http://www.gearheadengines.com/CrateEngines)... good thing it is a 95 5.8L long block with the KS sensor and roller cam. :) It will be here monday the 23rd. It would of been here on the 16th but I am traveling next week and my wife would :stick: :bangin: hunting.gif (<-yes in that order) if she had to deal with an engine while I was gone. I would rathered of done a machine shop but time is not in my favor.....

I would be one Very Happy Camper. All the luck to you Chris on the reinstall.
I see Dixie there checking it all out for you. Maybe some mysterious shadowy figure
will show up and install it before you get back home. Just sayin.....

Updates so far from this weekend. I've gotten a lot done and the engine is in place but not working :( And getting the toqure convertor bolts lined up with the flywheel on a small block is a pain in the.............. I fought that for a couple of hours before getting it right... grrrr never had that much problem with the 460/c6 heck it was easy to line up. It's done that what count.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Tried to fire it last night but just wasn't hitting.. I've done a lot of testing I have compression, fuel, air, and spark but the spark seems very light/weak... I also remembered that I now have a roller cam and that requires a steel dizzy gear instead of the cast one so good thing its not running. I looked at the steel gear by it self is more expensive than a reman dizzy with the gear. Makes not sense to me. Oh well parts store will have the dizzy about 2:30 today and I will also replace the coil. I will also have them test the TFI before I leave. Hopefully after all that she will fire up and I will get a few test runs in today. I don't have enough time left for this crazy stuff it should just work right... :) Until later...
