Newbie with a few questions...
Hey guys, been lurking around this site for some time now and y'all are a wealth of knowledge. I bought a 63 short wrongbed a while back and gave more than it was worth (oh well, live and learn). The old 223 was starting to have an excessive amount of blow by, so I found a 292 on craigslist and had it rebuilt. My question is this, what size radiator do I need to buy to keep it cool. The 223 radiator isn't going to get it done I don't think. Also, am I gonna need a different throttle assembly for the v8? I know you guys are not wrongbed fans, but I kinda liked it when I bought it. The bed is in absolutely perfect condition. I am gonna replace it though one I find a flareside bed in good condition. Pics to follow. Thanks guys.

the 223 and the 292 do NOT have the same bellhousing pattern...
you are going to need one that fits the 292 if your keeping the original tranny....

welcome from Alaska.
wrongbed is a matter of opinion, they came on the trucks so they are not really wrong, they just dont quite match the cab like the 64-66 stylesides.
if there was a big radiator on the 223 it will work fine for the 292, if its a small one you will want to change. i used one from a 65 352. flange is on the right side so it bolts right up to the core support. bottom hose is from the 352, top hose is a universal with an adaptor (rubber bushing)on the engine side.
linkage not a problem, you will just need the rod connecting the pedal arm to the carb.

Thanks - Matt
actually its the 57-60 bed and was used 61-63 on the non unis, 61-65 on the f100 4x4 and all 61-66 f250 4x4s
theres also a 9 foot version that came on 61-66 f350s

Nice truck... I see single monoleafs on the front with reverse eyes and flipping the rear axle........ dual exhaust, leave the wheels and caps and put some wide whites on it..... and leaving the patina just the way it is. Boy I can sure build one in my head, just wish I could get one built in my garage.. Keep us updated with progress and pics...

Wow! That is really nice looking truck - almost too good to be a rat rod. A short wrongbed was born to be a ratrod BTW. If it were me and I had your goal I would;
Lower it
wide whites
put the moldings back on
get a good set of pipes on it
have it pinstripped
tonnea (?)
detail it really well
don't do anything else
Here is about the best riding bet for lowering, they also make front spring like it (I think it the same as the 57-60 - call them). I have a set on the front of my Uni - I can't say enough good things about them.

You also said daily driver, you should seriously consider doing a disc brake conversion - definitely at least do a dual master cylinder conversion. The old single pot system has a flaw - you get a leak and you have NO brakes. I would also use the GM style plunger brake light switch - it's easier to install and R&R.

Thanks greg. Disc brakes are in my plan. I am saving up for the no limit springs front and rear. I like the patina to, but I am envisioning flat black, white walls and pinstripes. Has a few spots of rust to address, but very little. I do have to replace cab mounts. I am completely addicted to this site. But its getting very expensive being on here all the time!
