another 6cyl question

Post by choptopdoc »

hello fellas, I just picked up another slick last week. I put my uni project on hold and am tryin to get this one on the road so Il have a truck to haul parts and stuff. The truck is a 64 shrtbed 6cyl 3 speed. I pulled the oil pan off today and its all bad, rod cap, some slivers of what used to be berings, a chunk of camshaft, the works. :( Acording to the air cleaner, its a 170 :?: My question is what other 6cyls will drop in with the same motor mount setup and 3 speed tranny? I really want to keep the 3 on the tree.

id guess up into the 70s is safe. don't know exact years though, or when the last inline carb was.

170s were never put in trucks. the 170 air cleaner will fit the 223 6 which is most likely what you have and is the only bolt in 6.
a 262 was also offered , same bolt in as 223.

I'd also look on the "parts for sale" section here & over at the other site - or trawl the threads for guys replacing 6's with 8's...

If you wanted to make a trip up to Wichita you can have mine. Its a 223.

It hasn't run in a long time but it has been inside. Used oil, but should work for a while untill you get the other trucks up and running.

Not yet, hopefully tomorrow. I decided to replace the valve seals. Nobody had them in stock, had to wait a day to get em. I got it in and mounted today. Thanks again for the freebie :D

I actually used the carb off the old motor. The more I got to looking at it, the origional motor had alot of new parts on it, carb, dist and cap, starter, and water pump. It was all covered in an 1/8th inch of red dirt, but all cleaned up well :D
