4 spd gear shift boot

Post by rwhistles »

I have searched most of the repop places and cain't seem to find one.Looks like they would be quite common. I did find an E-brake lever boot at rubber the right way. that suprized me didn't think there would be much call for one of them. anyone know where to get one?

Some NOS have been turning up on Evilbay price started ont at 5$ and last time I saw one it had gotten to about 50starting price. Same seller. May not have any more. There were two kinds and one was a boot, and the other was more of a round rubber thing that just sliped over the shift leaver on the four speed. I believe these were used on earllier trucks also.

I need the boot to hide the trans shift tower. LMC has a transfer case shift boot that might woork.

Well I thought I had found a gear shift boot. Called Green sales and they checked the microfiche and said they had an nos boot so I bought it. Turns out it was the slip on cup for a np435 not a floor shift boot at all. I'm gonna call back tomorrow and see if they have the right one.

If they dont what are any of you useing for a boot. I'm sure there is one out there that will work.

Still doing research, but I have never seen a shift boot on an original '61-'64 T 98A four speed.

called green's today and the guy couldn't find a shift boot in the ford microfiche. So if one was not used was there just a hole in the floor with no boot to seal it ? Ford sealed the holes for everything else so why not the gearshift?

Hey guys,

I've got a '66 F100 4x4 with a 4 speed transmission in it. The shift boot on it is round, kind of like you described rwhistles. I ordered a new one from LMC, but it came and is rectangular.

I pulled the old one up and I don't think it is the stock unit... the hole underneath is rectangular and looks like it will fit the new boot pretty well. Just not sure is it will clear the shift tower on the trans...

Does anyone know which one would have been stock in my truck?

Cheers,
Dion

I know the years don't match, but this is just like the old one I took out of my 1965 F100, and also the same as I have in my 1967 F350.

Whether the exact year or not, I think you'd be very happy with this item.

Thanks slickmainer that cleared it up. on figure 9 f350 there is no shift boot just a plate and piece of foam that goes under the trans cover and as you can see the hole is real close to the bend where the cover goes up towards the firewall. LMC has one for a 52 that looks close to fiting but don't know. I think I will hit the junk yards and see if theres anything I can make do with.

This low mileage F 350 with the T 98 does not have a rubber boot either. Ebay #220750713555 ( sorry no link). A lot can be learned from authentic low mileage vehicles.

My '65 does not have a 'screw down' boot has one over the shifter and you can see the tower, foam of some sort under access cover and NO holes in it, I added the 4x shiter boot from something newer as I couldn't find correct one at the time.
