Welcome from South Carolina!

A bit of important advice, and critical if you are new to Slicks.

There is a major difference between the '64 and '65 years. 1964 was the last year for the solid front axle. 1965 was the first year for the Twin I-beam suspension.
This is critical because many of the recommended upgrades that use parts from a later donor truck (such as power disc brakes and power steering) only apply to the '65 and '66 Twin I-Beam Slicks - not those made '61 through '64.
The similarities between the years is only superficial. Very little except some sheet metal and some interior parts is interchangeable after '64.
The front suspension, engines, transmissions, steering, cab, frame and more are different after '64.
So, when you read about upgrades, be sure to note if the discussion is about the Twin I-beam Slicks, or the '64 and earlier models.
Fortunately, a number of the guys here have made their earlier Slicks to be very nice, and they are more than happy to pitch in and share their knowledge and experience.
We will be very glad to help you sort all this out to make your Slick a great one.
