Uncle Skip? I've got a question for you...

I read and reread your article on the Mustang fuel tank. It looks like a darn good way to get the gas out of the cab. My question is... Can this be done on a Unibody without driving yourself completely insane? I like the idea of an under-bed tank, but since it's kinda hard to remove my bed, what sort of options does a fella have? Is there enough wiggle room to install a set-up like this without removing the cab/bed assembly? I have limited tools, limited space and even more limited brains.

(P.S... I gave up on the reefer tank in the bed. It would be cool if the tank was maybe 30 gallons max and all I wanted to do was cruise. I'm gradually moving towards making the little pickup a daily driver. Necessity and practicality are winning...)

I did it on my 62 uni with the body on.Will have to get creative with some cutting tools but can be done

Dude, I did mine and even had Skip look at it. He blessed it off except he suggested I straighten out the neck more (which I haven't done yet). If I did it, I promise you can do it. I assume that the uni bed is steel and I do recommend having the bed off, it is so much easier. Also rust coat the frame before you hang the tank back up. If I took it off once I did it 15 times. But I always tell Skip "it sure goes faster teh 2nd and 3rd time!"

Flatwater. I don't see any reason you couldn't put the tank in if you follow the directions. I'm no engineer and certainly no genius so if I can do it I'm pretty sure you can too. I've given your project a bit of thought and the only issue would be the location of the filler neck. Lots of cool options for that. Mike (jkimbrel65) has the coolest but I don't have his machining skills. Max has a really nice one he's grafted in the side of his bed and if you're interested, I have a picture of one mounted on the inner fender.
Be creative.
FYI, everybody. The ONLY difference in the Mustang tanks is the area above the tank seam. The bottom is always the same. The increase in capacity is on the top part.
Let me know if you'd like to see that fender filler.

This all reminds me of one of the funniest photos I ever found online..

This guy is driving this shell of a car through some third world jungle, or something. I think the hood was off the car, and there was a gas can strapped on the roof, gravity feeding down to the carb....
