Tom: they didn't start with the metric stuff until mid seventies, so a Merc Slick speedo isn't any different than a Ford Speedo, if you want pics of a '64 Merc speedo, PM me your email address, I will fire you a pic or two of the one in my '64 M-350

Ford must have made them in Latin America in the 60s. If the lens would fit the North America speedo I'd love to have one.

OK Here is the scoop,, few years ago I did see a round speedometer in kilo.s at 100.00 per unit,, Dennis Carpenter had in one of their catalogs many years ago for sale,, Don't know if still have or just had couple,,, I will look back to see if can find it,, But I would be curious,,, Just like my owners manual brand new and first 5 pages written in French,, was told that those was suppose to go Quebec :dontknow: :?:

Interesting. Perhaps it was a retrofit intended for Canadian trucks, produced after the conversion to the metric system? As James mentioned, that took place in the mid 70's so the speedometer in my '62 is also solely in MPH.

It's also interesting that only the first five pages were in French. How many pages are there in total? I have seen shop manuals for sale on eBay, printed in French, which also would have been intended for Quebec.

I seem to recall mention of early Bronco clusters being put into slicks?? If that is possible, then the metric one you saw may be from a CDN '75-'77 Bronco??

just thinking out loud......

I believe 1976 was the transition year. Here's a good one, my 76 f150 had the primary units in kilometers for the speedometer however the odometer was in miles. With a 235/75/15 tire it was pretty darn accurate recording in miles. I never researched it but I do remember that being odd

Merc trucks were history years before Pierre stuffed the metric system up our.....speedometers!
And I never saw any conversion speedos for anything. All we were offered were tacky little number stickers that you glued on the speedo glass. High tech!

I remember the Dennis Carpenter Kilometer one, the Truckfarmer sent me the link and it was awful tempting except the price was wildly expensive. I suspect the dies came from Brazil or some other south American country.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

JC: You are likely correct on suspecting them originating in a South American country, but from what I have seen, Argentina would be at the top of the suspect list:):)
