1963 Canadian Unibody Vin # Problem... Help

Post by Hillbilly63 »

Hi all.
I bought a 1963 Uni short bed project truck about 5 years ago off a guy who never registered it when he bought it. He had the signed transfers, but lost the registration paper. So I contacted the 2nd previous owner and he agreed to get a new copy of the registration. So I'm putting together a package of forms with the VIN ect. all filled out so all he has to do is sign off at a ICBC office.

The problem I have is the Vin looks wrong (see photo) 96642A-4661014L as I thought these were to start with F10xxxxxxx

To further confuse me, my son just bought a 1961 Uni s/b, His registration paper shows VIN # 4661014L117125A all one # no dash in the middle but no VIN tags are on the cab to compare it to. Yet his first 7 digits are the same as my last !

I need to know the correct wat the VIN # should be entered on the paperwork.

So you fellow Canadian Slick owners, is your registration papers show the VIN with a dash or is it like my Son's one long #

Thanks Jim

The layout & sequencing of the tag in your pic does not look much different than the one on my Canadian 1964 M350......

Canada used a different VIN # system on the early Slicks. in 65 or 66 they went to the normal Ford numbering system.

Jim, I will try to decifer the serial number for you.

96642A-4661014L
Consecutive Serial number: 96642
GVW Group: A
dash: -
Make: 4 = Ford
Model: 66 = Pickup
Series: 10 = 100
Wheelbase: 14 = 114 inch
Drive: L = Left hand drive

Some of the numbers also had a letter indicating the year towards the end on the sequence.

Your son's serial number to me is as follows:

4661014L117125A
Model: 4 = Ford
Body Type: 66 = Pickup
Series: 10 = 100
Drive: L = Left hand drive
Consecutive serial number: 117125
GVW group: A

This is about as good as I can get it, best for both of you to pull the actual number off the frame, located on the top of the frame below the driver or above the front passenger side axel. It should be stamped right into the metal frame.

Canada built for domestic and export, so we sent them everywhere. Yes we did make Right hand drive trucks here.
