Finally, a proper donor for my Uni project!

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Finally, a proper donor for my Uni project!

Post by CanyonRider »

Long time lurker, rare poster here. I found this truck 4yrs ago. Committed the sin of starting a project with no real plan. Separated the body from the frame. Stripped, blasted and painted the frame. Re-built the 9" rearend adding a trutrac.

Dad's helper. :D

Then I began wringing my hands over the various options and costs of IFS, engine, tranny, brakes, etc, etc. Consequently, little progress has been made due to lack of clear direction.

I decided (inspired by this site and others) that I should find an appropriate frame-based donor that would have all the components and features I wanted and then set the Uni on it. Well, I think an appropriate donor arrived today.

I'm fired up to get back to work.

Yeah, I felt sorry for it too. It took a pretty hard lick in the passengers side doors. It was totalled by the insurance company and was likely headed to the dismantler. I feel like I rescued it and will give it new life (a better life) as a Slick. :D

Be aware, if you're not already, that the CV rear axle is wider than the front. An option that gives you the 4.5 bolt pattern in a wider stance to match the CV front is a 9" from a 70-73 (I believe those years are correct) F100 (Not F150) and yes they are available.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Considering your donor, I think you should source some slick parts for Canada and convert your F100 to an M100.
SBC is a defunct phone company, not an engine option.

I am aware and am mulling over a few options. I need to do some more measuring, research, etc and I'm sure I'll be asking questions here. :D

That's a very good idea - again sounds like I'll be doing some research. :thumright:

I talked with him for a while at a car show in January. Nice guy. Said the truck is really fun to drive. I took these pics of it at the F100 Western Nationals in 2011 & 2012. Good luck with yours!
