When I bought my truck in the mid 80's it was white on black. The top of the cab was white, but the rest of the truck was black. Actually the black part had a shiney purple cast until I waxed it. Someone told me years ago that the line between the white and black was "not factory" and I just figured the top was painted white at some point to help out in the summer.
I just looked at the VIN decal on the door and the paint code is AM. Here's my question: Does that mean when my 1966 F100 showed up at the dealer that it had a white cab top and the rest of the truck was black? wimbledon white on raven black?

Re: 1966 color code question
Yup, the "M" is wimbledon white. Have a look at the firewall for a grease pencil AM-2. My '66 Merc was 8M on the plate and 8M-2 on the firewall. Why the painters had to be told "-2" when it was obvious remains a mystery to me.

Re: 1966 color code question
Eric the door tag wouldnt have been on the truck nor the doors actually when it was going through paint so maybe not so obvious.

Re: 1966 color code question
But... if the painter sees two digits/letters (eg 8M) why would he need the "-2" to be told it's a two-tone? Maybe, just my guess, is that "-2" meant regular two-tone. Perhaps "cab-top only" in contrasting colour had a different "-#"
