Dave's 61 Uni short bed build

Finally decided which way to go with my Uni I bought earlier this year.

I own an auto repair business so I am going to make a shop truck out of it. Not a beater for the shop but,an advertising type vehicle for events, parades and shows. Going to paint it rat rod black and paint an old time shop logo on the side.
Have been working on it and cleaning, painting and detailing.

This is what I started with.

Holy cow where did you find a Uni that clean I dont see any rust anywhere :O.

There isn't any!!!! Born and raised in the desert of southern Idaho. Only the tailgate is rusted.

50 year old chrome....believe it! Fingers sore as hell but, came out sweet!

Man I think I actually have more rust on my 62 than you have clean steel :D.

About 8 hours of PITA rubbing, a couple of lenses and gaskets, a couple cans of spray paint and voila........
Will look great with the new chrome bumpers I have on order.

I really like your build
I have a 61 in similar shape with two bad lower bed skirt dents
how many hours do you have on just the body work?
I am trying to budget money for body work an help would be appreciated

I'm not doing the Body work myself. Have a friend that does this all the time. Not rushing him because his price is a steal. I have done tons of bodywork over the years but hate it. Being a business owner I have no time to do it myself.

John I can answer the how many hours of body work question :D. Have you seen this truck I get depressed everytime I come in here :D. I don't see any rust or even dents on this thing its like some farmer got it used it once couldn't open the doors got pissed and parked it in the barn . That was a climate controlled barn by the way :D.

Sweetness !!! I wish I could be making that kind of progress on my '61 F250 LB. Mines, been stuck in sandblasting for the last year, with little work. :D

Brought her home minus hood and tailgate. Started bolting on the parts I have restored. Put the back window in.

Truck looks really great!
Would you mind divulging the products/ steps involved in polishing that grille? I've been prep sanding so long, I'm thinking maybe there is a better way!

THANX Paul,

Used Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream bought at Oreilly's. That and a ton of time and energy.

Pulled the front axle out today to send to Sid's to have him drop it.
Wheels out to powder coater and the Coker Clasics 3 1/4" White walls should be here on Thursday.

Got the front axle back from Sid today. Put it back in and how sweet it is.
I took the axle out and shipped it out on a Monday. UPS delivered it to Sid on Friday. He dropped it 3", installed the king pins and bushings and I got it back and installed today. 8 days including removal ans installation. Sid is a man of few words but he really gets the job done. I was amazed. I planned on two weeks. So refreshing working with him.

Things coming together. The wheels came back from the local powdercoater. (took longer to do the powdercoat than it took for the whole axle deal. Coker classic 3 1/4" wide whitewalls from Summit took three days to get. Summit is the bomb!

Front needs another inch or two. Rear to match. Going to Boise spring works on Monday. Will bring down the rear as much as possible and match the front to it.
Have stainless bottle cap hubcaps with the "FORD" painted red.
