Expensive engine detailing job

Post by 64LL »

5 months ago this truck was on Hamb and ebay a couple different times for 13k - 14k and took a while to sell at that price.

Looks like after some new paint in the engine, a new air cleaner and some fancy photos and an over-the-top description, its worth at least 10k more now. Current seller was asking for 30k on the Hamb and apparently it got sold outside of ebay, although bids there reached 20k+. For that much money, I think I'd want a headliner!

that truck is a cool build. sorry for those that don't like it for the non ford parts but cool is cool. the camaro subframe is a good choice if the ride height that truck sits at is your goal. i actually based ALOT of how i wanted my truck to sit on that truck and a few others that sat similarly(ALOT of them have camaro subs) it took notching the jag xjs crossmember into the frame a little to get to the same goal.

472 caddy. sounds like a whole buncha fun in that truck to me. i had a 500 caddy in a 67 camaro when i was young and it was SCARY.

i HATE yellow for the most part but that truck is cool.

that truck was a good buy at 13K looks like someone was smart enough to grab it and do the finishing touches and made bank on it. that truck with the finishing touches SHOULD sell for the mid-high twenties. since i work in a hot rod shop by day i can tell you that you'd be hard pressed to duplicate it for twice that amount. i'll be happy if i'm able to reach my goal of a similar quality build and my budget of 10-15k and me doing the work....ken...

I'm not a yellow fan either, nor do I usually like those chevy bullet centre caps. But It DOES look good.

Yes, all those photos of the dang ugly seatcover and varying street views. Only two of the bed, not even the whole thing, and what, two of the frame from underneath?

Lame. Someone is selling this on image alone. Some buyer will come along what don't know which end of the pencil goes in the sharpener, drive off with a MUCH lighter wallet, then be stuck when the first mechanical item fails. Seen too many hotrods resold by their original builders to new owners that never touched a spark plug before.

"Boy, wouldn't I look cool in THAT? Think of the chicks lining up, just panting for a piece of me"

All image. I'd want to go over something like that from bumper to bumper and check their work before the price was even discussed.

When I was a just pup taking auto shop in high school in the dark ages, our instructor who was an old time drag racer in south Georgia, told me that the only-est (sic) thing that kin outrun cubic inches is cubic money. Lesson learned.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

the kinda guy that shelling out money like that for a truck is also the kinda guy that helps keep food on the table for those of us that build/maintain such a vehicle for them. theres a place for all types of old car/truck owners. when you think about it who's smarter the guy that struggles to build his own at home or the guy that puts the same energy into making the money to tell someone else what he wants? there could be plenty of arguements for both sides of the coin. we have a GREAT customer at the shop who is a true car guy that has us build stuff while he runs his very successfull business and pays the bill. he'd either have to suffer his devotion to his business to do it himself or go just as he does. no right or wrong. just different means to an end...ken...

I like it very much. However, tastes run where they will and nobody is required to like a build. Personally, I rather see a built 300 under the hood, and either Mustang II or Crown Vic subframe... What can I say, I like Ford!

But it's not my truck and my opinion is merely that: An opinion.

Furthermore, I think it'd be a blast to drive. My brother had a '70 Caddy with a 472, and it hauled some serious ass. That motor in a SWB would be downright nuts! And if I had a low-mile 472, it'd probably wind up in my '66. Purist aside, I'm a fan of a good engine and those Caddy big-blocks are reliable and very, very torquey.
Working on a '66 F100 with a '71 240 and the original three-on-the-tree...
