slamming a cv ifs
I have seen a lot of cv swaps and a lot of slammed strait axles but I haven't seen a slammed cv. Is it possible? Has someone done it? Can u post pics or a link?

notching the frame for the crossmember helps get you pretty low. it's how i did the jag xj swap in my truck and how my buddy charlie did the cv swap in his. both set ups notched into the frame 2-3" will give you about the height of a camaro subbed version of our trucks. my truck with 205/70/15 tires sits about 5" off the ground at the rocker at the front of the door.....

So a mustang II is the only way to lay on the ground?

I think you can lay frame with a CV swap if you Z the frame at front of cab , I forget who but it was done on this site I'm pretty sure.......I think.

I'll be working on that in a little while. I figure I got to build plates to fit the top of strut housing to give a more level mount and fab up a bottom bracket to hold a bag. should work out okay hope to get loooow. camber will prob be an issue. but, it is kind of inherent. wish i had something to show you. notch frame to sit lowered would be the best route geometry wise. or Z.

NO!!!!! a general mustang ii kit will only drop a slic side 5" or so. fatmans ultralow may get you 8" or so. to lay frame with pretty much any set up you are gonna notch into the rails or Z the frame. the one exception would probably be 2nd gen camaro subframe and even then you are installing it in a method that being low is high goal.66Rat wrote:So a mustang II is the only way to lay on the ground?
mustang ii is also about my last choice for these trucks. i'd put jag, 2nd gen camaro, industrial chassis dakota swap, 03-10 crown vic, volare, and a few others in front of mii. but thats just me.
if i were going to build one of these trucks with the intent of laying frame i would either do jag and Z the frame the full height of the frame rail or do 2nd gen camaro and splice the rearward rails of the camaro about halfway into the trucks rails at the cab. either of those should give you articulation from layed out at full deflate to 7-10" at the rocker at full inflate.
if you want it to lay rocker instead of frame you will probably have to also trim the bottom of the rails and box the frame for strenght accordingly....ken....

You're going to be doing frame surgery if you want to lay anything on the ground, so you might as well clip it and save at least a grand over a kit. The F-body route is proven, cheap, relatively easy, and maintains good geometry throughout a big range of travel. It's also narrow enough to allow you to turn quite a bit with the wheels tucked - something you couldn't really do with the Crown Vic K-member. You could put any clip you wanted in it at that point, but the F-body has a nice big built-in kickup, allowing for a clean install if you put a little bit of thought into grafting it in place.

notching the jag into the frame rail is also easy. if you want 2" notch it's as easy as welding in 3x2x3/16 tubing inside the frame rail, finding the correct position for the crossmember and notching that area for the crossmember to slide up to meet the tubing and welding to the tubing. if you wanted 3" notch just change that to 2x2x3/16 which is what i did. since mine was experimental i had tacked 3x2 in first and decided it just wasn't low enough and i cut the tacks and went 2x2 and notched the other inch. my truck is as lower or lower than most with a camaro sub. my truck at ride height with 205/70/15 tires sits at 5" at the rocker at the front of the door.
the jag is also the correct 59.5" track width same as our trucks. while the camaro is close it's still roughly 1.5" wider than stock track.
the one thing i like more about the camaro is it;s got a HUGE aftermarket support and theres tons of stuff for it including narrowed control arms that can get you to the stock f100 track width....
