I liv close to a plase that has auctions on surplus military equipment and heavy equpment. I have wanted a hummer sinc i first saw one. I like the military hummers, because they dont have all the fancy crap on them. Are they a good vehicle? I added this later, i realy want one of the 2 door modles.i walk with a walker and i can throw my walker in the bed and hold on to the bed and walk to the cab and get out when i get to were im going and hold on and walk back to the back and get my walker.

I've heard they are high maintenance
The seals on the wheel drives tend to leak quite often
I would just get a f350 4x4 myself

I had one in Kuwait… was a piece of junk… But if its your dream to get one…. only you can make that determination of having one. I personally wouldn't spend the money.. money needs to go to my bills and slick rebuild once the bills are paid.
The months may change, but I am always APRIL

Re: I have a question agin
The military ones being sold to the public today are mostly the M998, the very early ones designed for general use, not for urban combat. They are full-time 4 wheel drive with a GM 6.2L IDI diesel and a 3 speed automatic transmission.
For street use, they will require modifications, including (but not limited to) catalytic converters and lighting - and the permits to verify the work was done to DOT specs.
When I was in, we had constant troubles with leaking gear oils everywhere, burnt glow plugs (requiring head removal), inoperative glow plug controllers, broken CV joints in the half-axles and heaters that wouldn't work.
They also tend to wander on hard surface roads, even with more civilian-type tires.
The vehicle is made as wide as is possible, much wider than is obvious until you drive one, which can make for unintended scrapes.
I found them easy to work, on though.
Great for off-road use, though, as the width really contributes to stability.
Not worth the money to obtain one, in my opinion, and bring it up to street legal specs.

Re: I have a question agin
I hated working on them when someone else was paying for the parts. I couldn't imagine fighting with one and having to pay for the stuff to fix it. 24v electrical makes for some fun finding parts. Also what Banjopicker66 said above.
