From my friendly neighborhood Ford dealer:
I don't advise buying new either. Another dealer near here has an '06 with 6K miles with an asking price of $26K so you know it could go for less.
'course all of this is USD...

1.00 CAD = 0.948289 USD as of 10 minutes ago, and Free trade is supposed to impose no duty on them, so Obviously Ford of Canada is taking a LOT more profits on a Canadian deal. Might explain why they always record profits, up here
since direct exchange on money would make that price you posted $30,818.66 CDN (still over 30 G's)
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
I do like the looks of the new ones but don't think I would ever have an old one, I like 'em but I like things that are a little different. I would rather have a Cougar than a mustang, rather have a 57 ford than the "ALlMIGHTY " '57 belair, rather have a toyota land cruiser than a CJ7, rather have another Datsun 280z than a Iroc ect. ect. ect.
I live in "chebby country" maybe that is why I like old ford trucks. I almost coughed up a cat when my neighbor told me my T15 was looking good. It's a ford not a chevy!!!!

I drove an '05 V6 for a week when they first came out. The performance was about on par with the pre-2005 GTs. It felt similar to my '94 GT - maybe a bit quicker. They have about the same HP rating (new V6 and older V8 ) IIRC. But - I didn't really like it. Missed the V8 sound too much. And the one I drove was the low-end model so the interior was cheap and plasticy (rental). The higher trim level (forget what it's called) is probably nicer. The V6 was noisy, too - but not in a good way.
One thing for certain: Ford will have to step up their game if/when the new Camaros and Challengers start hitting the road. They'll have some competition then!
ps: Jonny C - we're talking MSRP on these new Stangs anyway. No one pays that for a car, do they? [maybe for a Shelby or something] We briefly looked at a nice new Torch Red '06 GT last year when we traded my wife's van. The guy was willing to knock $2500 off right away without me asking. And they were offering 0 per cent financing. Wife wouldn't go for it, though...

Before anyone thinks Doc is trying to start a flame war...
I think Doc is trying to start a thread that generates excitement and gets people involved. I dont think Doc means any malice at all, but some forum boards get pretty slow at times and a nice thread that can start a debate without being a flamewar is often a good excuse to get people chatting again.
If you read other threads started by Doc, theyre always humorous, fun, and usually make you think a bit.
I'm not much of a mustang fan either, but I dont hate them by any means. It is interesting to see what people like and dislike on here though. I would never have guessed Heavy would have liked a subaru (laughing butt off)
I guess I could take a picture of the black 07 STI sitting next to my uni in the driveway.....
You guys laugh until you ride in one. They are little four wheel rocket ships, that handle like nothing else on the market today. I laughed too, until i drove one and very accidentally realized I was doing a buck thirty.
Plus you can pick up different kinds of girls in an STI than you can in a slick....and I'm sure the mustang could produce a similar result under the perfect conditions... But what do I know... i'm 22 -)

I have no idea what you are talking about.
The new Mustang has "only" 300hp...
The V6 is rated at 210...I remember back in the Fox body Mustang days we were all a-twitter when it offered 225 hp from the fuel injected 302.
BTW, that thing pictured above with a V8 offered a whole 140 ponies when it was new. Quit yer bitchin.
yea throwing the word shelby on a 500 hp is just dumb right? Drive one of them then talk to me. no small engines straight up v8s the gt 500 flies no other words. great cars never talk me out of that. like i said anyone who doubts the mustang can take a ride my cobra no 4 cylinder mustang all 8 cylinders the way it should be. besides ford is making a car that sells the mustang and their truck line is all they have left. Mustang is tops always in my book.

I can't wait to see their new Fiesta 'Shelby' with the 'Cobra' 3cylinder turbocharged 'Boss' engine.
the way I understand it ole Henry Ford tried to buy Ferrari. they had all the t's crossed and the i's dotted and were at lunch about to sign and Enzo backed out at the last second. I guess he sad something about how he didnt want his cars to be produced by a common automaker or something to that effect. SO... Ole Henry Ford decided to beat Enzo at his own game (a similar offense caused Lamborghini to make a car after Enzo wouldnt build one for the tractor maker) anyway Ford started talking to race car guys and they came to Carroll Shelby with an offer and he worked it out that he would have control over the cars (daytona coupe, gt40, & cobra) and then the name on the mustangs. so it was a mutual thing. Ford beat the pants off Ferrari for a few years and Shelby got to build cars with total control, factory support, and a huge budget.
not a bad thing IMO, but I could be wrong about the details.
also Ford did very well drag racing with the lightweight galaxies and fairlanes pre Shelby and also in nascar in the 60's and early 70's as well as most other types of racing. 302 boss mustangs, thunderbolt fairlanes, and talladega torinos are good examples of Ford's name in different types of racing.

Its like a really fast GrandAm in my eyes
I prefer to think of it as a 4 seater Corvette with 400hp for $30,000.00. And the back seat is plenty big enough for an adult to be comfortable. Besides, everyone knows it is just a Holden Monaro modified for our market. For anyone who has not driven one, take a test drive in one. The GTO is not for everyone.
Actually, I think Enzo was displeased with Ford about the racing end of it. All he wanted to do was run the racing end of things. Anyway he ended up telling Ford to go piss up a rope. Ford decided it was time to blow his doors off in retaliation. As to Subaru, I've always thought well of those cars, but frankly, don't fit inside very well. Felt like I was jammed in it. Mind you, I own and drive a 91 Mercury Capri, and find it very comfortable. Fun car to drive, and handles great. I can only describe it's construction a bastardised though. Mazda drive train, designed in Italy, and assembled in Australia, and sold as an American car. When I first saw one on the lot, and looked at the price, I couldn't figure out why anyone would buy a Capri. Now years later, having bought one to repair and sell for profit, I'm really impressed with the driving characteristics of this little rocket. I shut it down at 130, and it had more left in it, but I didn't have it in me. My last two speeding tickets were from this car. Off the line it's not much till the turbo kicks in, but when it does, you better be ready to get out of the gas and shift, because you will be past red line in a heart beat. The real problem is that it feels like a big car, and it is very easy to run up to 90 without noticing. Ticket getter for sure. Truthfully, I've been looking at Toyota, Lexus , and possibly Volkswagon. Right now, I'm not going to buy anything. Got bearings and a new gear coming for the snout of the Buicks Supercharger. Gonna pick her up again, and wait for it to go belly up. Most likely won't buy anything when it happens. Just let the wife drive my toy.
