My 66 F100 was purchased with broken springs. Being the cheap one that I an I salvaged springs off the 69 Camper special I was scrapping. I used main spring over and lower one. I left the second from top out and added drop shackles. I am happy with the result.

Though I have been guilty of re-using U-bolts in the past...
I try to use new ones whenever I take off old ones

When I owned my '63, I added used & extra leaf springs at the rear with success. I also would recommend new U-bolts when possible. I would also recommend adding some leaf spring alignment clamps. Here is a good instruction and depiction of them. http://www.jegs.com/InstallationInstruc ... S60913.pdf
I made mine out of two pieces of 1/4" steel, 1.25" wide and about 3" long, drilled two holes and ran a Grade 5 bolt on either side of the leafs, drawing the two straps together. You don't need to pinch the leaves tight, just hold them in alignment. Double nutting helps to secure without being so tight. Their function is to keep all the leafs in alignment preventing them from turning on the center bolt. I had a leaf turn at the center bolt and nearly puncture my tire! I also have cracked old leafs and the alignment clamps help keep the halves from falling out quicker....... BTDT.
No new ones available on Sunday in this design. My spring shop requires one old one to make new ones and they are not open on Sundays. Will get new ones when I get a chance. The 250 springs have built in brackets to line then up. I just need to install new bolts. Hard ware store in closeist town was closed. Will do it this weekend.

Best news is I can sit on the tail gate and it does not drop 5 inches. Much firmer ride.
Cant wait to hook my trailer to it and take it camping.
