Old trucks are FUN!!!1! (and other F words)

Starter install gone awry...

Stopped Sunday at the Circle K gas station on Alexis Ave in the F 100.
I tried to start it after filling the tank and sparks shot out from under the car. The starter wire welded itself to the exhaust manifold when I went to leave. My starter install left the wire against the manifold I guess

Some dude tried to help but made me move the truck so I wouldn't burn down toledo or something
He turned the key and we did a diagnostic by watching the flames and sparks under the truck.

Wife wouldn't answer the 277,628 calls I made so I hoofed it a mile to Murray auto parts. (ONLY place in town open til midnight on Sunday).
Lo and behold about 1/2 mile away (and embarrasingly enough) there was some car buddies doing what we do best - standing in a parking lot.

Todd gave me a ride, Matt donated jumper cables and Brad coughed up his tool case and I went to work returning my vintage Ford to road worthiness. Probably the best case senario you could have breaking down at night time. I was done NASCAR quick.
Someday I'll get another slick :(

You know...if this was a new car, a situation like that may have fried the computer, or even the whole underhood harness. At least the truck can brush off stuff like that & be happy again in five minutes. :D
My "Slickitis" affliction began here...

I may be old but after a while I do tend to learn. After several "adventures" while "playing" in the desert my slick has the following items as necessities stoed away in the back or under the seat: extra battery, starter, belt, alt, radiator hose, clutch to pedle rod, assorted clamps and bolts, and a tool kit that allows me to change all the parts. Oh ya duct tape and twine. Compulsive? Ya but I hate not being as prepared as possible.

wow that really is compulsive preparedness! haha

I got an old fan belt, set of points, a coil, old bat cables, rad hose maybe, and a bulging toolbox...

I generally think that spraying sparks next to the gas pump is a bad scenariio! haha oh my... glad it turned out well.
