1 Wire Alternator/ Bench Seat Uhpolstery?

Post by rickrob16 »

Hey All, does anyone know of a reputable place that sells a high output 1 wire alternator that will fit my 61 F100 with a 223 inline six? I have also been all over the web looking for a seat cover like the one I had in my 66 years ago. Teal/ turquoise blue with a gear and lightning bolt on it. Anybody know where I can get one? Thanks!!!

You can get the "Delco style" 1 wire alternator at any reputable speed shop or on line at Jegs or Summit. As for the correct brackets for it, go to http://www.fifthaveinternetgarage.com/
They've got Delco style alternator brackets for just about every vintage engine out there.
Unless you're specifically looking for a "show chrome" alternator, you should consider a standard 3 wire setup. You can utilize any mid 70s to mid 80s Delco 10SI or 12SI alternator (about 75 bucks at any auto parts store or even cheaper at a junkyard.) The 3 wire setup gives you instant output plus allows your "ALT" or "GEN" light to operate just like normal.
Good Luck,
Best,

Original Style Upholstery

Post by DanSanDiego2000 »

As far as your bench seat goes, I don't think anyone has yet overcome the highly protective Ford FoMoCo trademark police.
In order to make a reproduction seat with those emblems and lightning bolt, you have to gain approval from Ford Motor Company. Not an easy task, and one I have been working on for nearly a year.

I first set out to buy upholstery just like you describe, but soon found out nobody had the blessing from Ford to reproduce it.

A compromise is in order.

I am happy with the 12SI alternator in my truck. I was able to use the same brackets, with the addition of a spacer.

I used an '80's style GM alternator on both my MF tractor and slick with 223. I fabbed a bracket to mount it and jumped the exciter to the charging terminal. Has been working great for nigh onto 20 years. Rewiring around the regulator was easy, just delete one wire and butt splice the other.

Rather than a 10SI or 12SI type alternator, use the CS130 type. Ask For an 88 GMC CK pickup with the L05 engine. You can get 100 amp alternator for about 80 clams. You will have to change the pulley to a v-groove (10SI will fit) and open the mounting hole to fit your setup. It should also come with a dyno sheet showing max output. Mine runs 115 amps max.
Easy hookup.. Alt light works too.
