Hi All

Post by TonyC »

Hey everyone, new guy here from Mass. The name is Tony C, and I just picked up a 62 F100 flat bed w/292 Y Block, 4 speed w/granny gear. The previous owner did most of the hard stuff, engine rebuild, king pins, cab mounts, steering rebuild etc...plus a truck load of parts.

I do have some work to do though, as it pulls like a bear to the right when I hit the brakes. I took apart the left side, and after having to change out wheel studs first, I found that the shoes were reversed. Primary to the back, and secondary to the front. Ive got new wheel cylinders on order, and will be changing out the shoes as well. I need to change out the parking brake cable as well.

But hey, thats the fun of these old trucks. Wrenching and cursing, cursing and wrenching. Ive been ghosting on this forum for awhile and finally joined. Lots of good info here, and not to much BS. Gotta love it!

Thanks Greg! As a matter of fact, while ghosting the forum for awhile, that very posting of yours was one I copied and made a "to do list" for my slick. Everything from the disc upgrade to the 68 Mustang dual master cylinder. Thanks for posting that!

Welcome to the site Tony, glad to hear you have been hanging out for some time, but that being said, YOU SHOULD KNOW THE RULES, PICTURES, PICTURES AND MORE PICTURES.

I see that your truck has a 61 grill in it, wondering if it was changed or if it is a 61 sold as a 62?

Yeah, I will get some shots of her to post. And good catch, she does have 61 grill. She's got a few different year parts on her, but for me that adds some character. She aint correct, but she's mine!

Alot of them end up with different parts late in life.
This truck had body parts from 8 different trucks - I could tell cause when I got it they were all different colors, lol.

That's the truck I looked at and drove after mine got hit by a tree. It did have a hard pull to the right, but the 292 sounded great out of those headers. I recall the passenger side step was a little soft underneath, but at least the engine and tranny are good. Id' keep it a flat bed too since he cut some inches off the back frame.

Welcome to the site from warm if not sunny Fl.A word of caution though,be careful these slicks are like rabbits they tend to multiply. Before long you could have a yard full of them. Not that it's a bad thing.

Small world. He was telling me about a guy who came over and looked at her. Yeah, she's got a few issues, but you are right, the 292 sounds great and runs like a top. So with that in mind, I can handle all the other issues. I'm diggin the flat bed look. I'll be re-doing it with new wood and some plating, and am thinking about some lower toolboxes and storage.

Thanks for the great welcome everyone, as well as all the tips and info. This site has been very valuable!
