AARRGGHH!
The problem with being old, lazy, and slow, is you can not find what you need when you need it.
In stead of unbridled joy because I received my modified bell, et. al., from John Mummert, I am down in the dumps because I can not find where I put the plate that goes between the engine and the bellhousing..
I am not even sure I still own one.
If anybody out ther has a spare for the 292 Y block Please send me a P.M.
Meanwhile I will keep looking.I could swear I had painted it and put it iwith the flywheel, but maybe that was the 223.

Re: AARRGGHH!
I got to tell you, that makes me feel a whole lot better.
I can stop tearing the garage apart looking for the plate I painted....for the 223. Too many projects, not enough grey matter.
It seems as if you just can't catch a break with the snow, Brian. Glad you were not a foot when you ran across the moose.
Allen,
You will just have to wait 173 more days unless ezer wants to let you know.

Re: AARRGGHH!
Since originally purchasing my truck I have moved a total of 6 times. My truck has been moved 4 times. I have been gathering parts from numerous sources over the years and thought I had them all consolidated in one location, packed away in a stack of plastic tubs.
Fast forward to January of this year. I get an email from my friend who's looking to clear out his collection of random parts. He told me he had a set of 30-over pistons and rings for a 223, and wondered if I was interested. Of course he had no idea where he had picked them up, but figured they must have been in with a parts lot that he bought at an auction years earlier. I told him I already had a set of 30-over pistons and rings for a 223. What a coincidence!
After some more digging, he finds a gasket set for a 223.
Then a set of intake valves. Weird. He's never owned a 223 in his life!
Finally I remembered. I had procured a bunch of parts of eBay in the early days of the project when the plan was to salvage the original engine, which had one bad cylinder and one cracked valve. We had pulled the engine out in preparation for getting the floor prepared, and my friend was going to take it to his local machine shop to get the cylinders bored to match the new pistons. So I left all the parts with him, but apparently never got them back when it became evident that the original engine couldn't be saved.
So as it turns out I was missing a few hundred dollars worth of parts since early '06, and never realized they were gone!

Re: AARRGGHH!
I'm kinda headed in that direction myself....LOL I have my 1963 in zip lock bags, some boxes, some upstairs some in the corner....... I'm really trying to keep pushing myself and to stay focused on the cab right now to get it to paint so I can start the re-assemble before I completely forget how it goes together. My wife and kids think I have really lost it........ may be some truth to that..... but after hearing from some of you out there about missing parts I had respond because I feel I'm headed for the same conversation soon.

Re: AARRGGHH!
As my grandfather told me, and as I am finding out, the more space you have, the more stuff you find to put in it. I have pretty much taken over my parents garage with my to trucks and have pieces and parts in my basement and shed. Its only a miracle I know or can find half the stuff I am looking for when I need it.

Re: AARRGGHH!
Thanks guys,
you make me feel better! I am sure it is just a product of an disciplined mind.
Perhaps age, or too much on my plate is involved , however I find the gaps more frequent, and learned solutions having to be relearned way too often.
I still get a kick out of my youngest calling me Houdini when I seemingly conjure a solution out of thin air.
Ah experience

Re: AARRGGHH!
Been ripping apart this 350 I picked up. Had it two weeks. Been sort of an addiction already. The simple plan to add a brake booster and get the brakes working spiraled into a fairly full teardown once I realize I need to clearance the pedal bracket to get the huts for the brake booster on. So know I have it cab off down to the a rolling chassis w/ engine. Painted the engine and have started putting accessories back on. Been bagging everything and rotating bolts and parts through cleaner and rust eater baths. Got finished for the day last night and found 2 bolts in the cleaner bath that I have no idea what they goto... Guess I'm going to try and go through all the labeled bags and figure out which is missing bolts that I haven't already put back on. Everything has been fairly simple, but I have been going through it fairly non-stop as I am afraid of not remembering how everything goes even though I took a bunch of pics on the teardown. Wife a little grumpy about the time, but probably more grumpy if I end up w/ a 90% truck and some key missing parts that seem to keep it from running... Also spent 20 minutes looking for the can of brake cleaner only to find it sitting on top of the garage fridge.

Re: AARRGGHH!
moving and packing up all the little slick parts i have accumulated has become quite the chore as i am attempting to do some organizing in the hope of readily accessing them in the future.
i have several, in some cases very many, of every nut, bolt, screw, bracket etc. used.
some while the same are different 61-64 used fine threads, 65/66 coarse on body bolts.
many similar but slightly different trim screws.
found stuff i had looked for before and could not find, stuff that i had forgottten i had and the more i go thru stuff the more i find then i have to go back and find where i put that particular item yesterday or before lunch....
