Headlight Bezel

Post by Rusted64 »

Hello All,

I have have a question about headlight bezels.

I have what I thought are aluminum bezels, but the polish is not working and in fact, the polish says that if it does not create a black excess, it is not a polish able metal.

I tried chrome polish and also not getting better.

I know that there are options for chrome, aluminum and steel, but I thought even steel could polish.

Thanks,

a magnet will tell you what you have.. they may be aluminum that is annodized in order to polish.. that has to come off easiest and cheapest is a gallon of greased lightning you can get it at lowes or home depot about 7 bucks find a shallow pan just big enough to fit bezel in,cover with greased lightning and let it sit,it doesnt take that long 10-15 min youll see it working, get a piece of fine steel wool for scrubing if its not all coming off, then polish and your done..hope this helps

Spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to clean off the chromed plastic bezels on the back up lights from the 61 LWB I am playing with. I scrubed and soaked and tried cleaner wax.
Then I remembered that steel wool cleans and polishes old chrome better than enything else
Ten minutes latter it looked great!

Thanks guys, I will try some steel wool in the morning and see how that goes, then maybe pick up some of the cleaner stuff when I am at home depot next.

Thanks,

I deanodized tail light bezels with Drano last year. Just deanodized body trim but used Heavy Duty Easy Off this time and a small brush. Cleaned with "0000" steel wool. Finished with Mother's Alum Polish. Turned out pretty good. Go to Google and type in " deanodize alum " and a bunch of hits will come up.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

fyi, Just remember IF you remove the anodizing you'll have to polish them from now on because they won't be sealed. Raw aluminum will turn dull-so they anodize it.
