So I don't steal from another thread. Thought I would post the web site for the Mackinac bridge. Heres a couple of pics. The bridge is miles long. Theres is alot of info on the web site you can go back and see how it was built.
it's strange. none look like the crazy ski jump slope seen in the other thread. The last one looks really short, the first 2 really long... Is it really the same bridge??? the pics just look completely incongruous... optical tricks I guess!

and it looks just like the pic I showed, when you are driving on it. So, you seem to be going straight up, and all you can see below you (Seems like a mile below you) is water. Best not to eat tacos before you drive across it, 'cause it gives a whole new meaning to "Fill yer boots"
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
the roadbed all the way is that steel grate??? WOW. Sorry bout your feelings about it, but I think that sounds awesome! haha
ha my dad said that when he was little his family referred to dog crap as Tacos... I dont know if that's what the word translated as at some point, or if they were just wierd..
Kinda like my gma thinks that Bell Peppers are referred to as Mangos... I think she's a bit off.... As far as that goes, I think she always has been...

That thing looks really cool, expecially that first shot. It's hard to imagine it's 5 miles long, from the pics.

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!
Pulled a travel trailer across it during high winds. When that happens all rvs and big trucks are required to stay in the outside lanes and stay at 20 mph with the four way flashers on.
Stayed it the Mackinaw mill creek campground that has a beautiful wiew of the bridge especially at night when its all lit up.
That reminds me of where my dad worked when I was a kid. We lived in Tuscon in the early 70s,I wish we had stayed I loved it there. Anyway he worked at the Andaconda copper mine and we went to a tour there one day. It great to a 6 year old. I got to see a Terex Titan truck close up and see it in the bottom of the copper mine,1 mile wide by 1 mile deep if I remember correctly. Then we got to go inside one of the buildings. They had some of that metal in there to walk on. I remember seeing down the other levels at the guys working there. It about freaked this 6 year old at the time out. I bet those guys under the level I was on thought that leaky hydralic fluid was thin and very yellow. .
I like DA U.P.!
Yep, I've been over it a few times. Pretty amazing. Quite a few people died in the building of that bridge.. The U.P. is actually like going to another country almost when your from the lower peninsula. Its a beautiful place to visit. Its actually kind of amazing when I talk to people from other states they have never heard of the mighty mac or Mackinac island.

He's been looking all over but last I heard he was talking Manistee. Thats not as close as I thought. Since he retired he drives up weekly from Toledo and fishes the Manistee river.
Charlie why in the heck would they put a CURVE in a bridge?
Never seen that before.. usually they go straight from point A to point B without the extra special thrill of sliding off in the winter, on a curve..
