Is a 66 Ford Truck 6 cyl, AT, PS worth $1,300.

Hello! What would a 64-66 Ford truck long bed with 6 cyl, auto trans, ps and drivable be worth? I would like to buy a running and drivable truck for less than $1,400. Thanks and any help or advice would help. I am new to this forum and want a good truck. Thanks, John

That's sort of hard to answer. WORTH is a subjective term. Without seeing it, I would say if you think it's worth it it is. There's certainly some value in being able to start it up an drive it home. Is it a rust bucket, which will require massive body work?
Maybe someone will post a more definitive answer.

I think that one that you can drive without having to do to much to is worth at least $1500. I gave $700 for the driving part then another $300 for another body that I am putting $1000's of dollars in to get her on the road. WORTH , as Gritsngumbo stated, is very subjective. Check out the normal rust areas and figure in what it will cost to make it road ready and see what you think. I love these old trucks and if it is drivable as is for the $1300, I would jump on it. just my opinion though. I am sure you will get more responses.

John, first - welcome!

I also agree with what Grits and Anthony have said - worth is a very subjective thing. I love my '66 and it was well "worth" the $ to me.

I would also add however that "decent shape" is also very subjective. Decent project, Decent driver, Decent show, etc.

Missouri = salt = rust.
Look at the cab mounts, the floors, the cab center support, the lower door pillars. These are all replaceable but can be expensive if you can't do your own rust repair (cutting & welding) - still alot of work if you can. Sounds like you found a truck with a nice setup. If the previous/present owner converted the PS & auto tranny what kind of a job did he do?
I am not saying it's a bad deal here, you do need to know what you are getting into though balanced with your skills and wallet.
These are really great trucks, don't feel as though you have to get the wrong truck for you to have one though - there are alot of them out there.

let me tell ya these are great trucks. very simple and durable..Ive had my daily driver dodge diesel apart doing the trans for a month cause im waiting on parts... Ive been driving my restored 64 223 3 speed everyday...it use to be only for nice weather and car shows now i'm having to rely on it for daily transportation til my trans is done for the dodge. Its definatley not fast with that little six but it starts right up and drives everywhere.. I am very happy with it...I'm not happy however seeing it covered in mud cause I live on a dirt road and am now driving it in rain, but these slicks are the best trucks around!

I gave 1825.00 for my 66 flareside. It was all there and the body was in very good shape. But I had to push it on the tow dolly because it would not run. It wasn't a big deal getting it running but, all in all, I have spent around 1000.00 getting in good enough shape to drive every day. So all that being said there is a good amount of value in the fact it runs and you can drive it. But the biggest part of my buying decision was I wanted this truck and I was willing to pay the price. If you want it buy it! These are great trucks, alot of fun to work on, and a heck of alot of fun to drive.

I gave $5K for one in Colorado that had just had the original motor professionally rebuilt. The guy told me that he would sell it to me for what he had put in to it and he gave me the receipts verifying all of the work that had been done. It needed a little body work because of a couple of small quarter sized rust spots. The interior had been repainted and restored and the best part is it drove home without any problem. I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. I believe that I definitely got what i paid for.

I gave 1300.00 for my(actually it is my son's now)66swb styleside. I wasn't really looking for a truck at the time. I just happened to run into the original owner who mentioned he had an old truck for sell. He quoted a price and I didn't even try to haggle just wrote out the check. I drove the truck about 15 miles home with only one rear brake working. I spent around 200.00 on rebuilding the brake system:MC kit, 4 WC kits, new brake shoes, turned drums, and new points and plugs, also replaced all hoses in the cooling system. Then I drove the truck as a daily driver for the next five years. If I did the math right (never was my strong suit) that is about 82 cents a day to drive a vechicle with more character than a new truck.

Any truck that you can start up, run, and can drive dependably is worth it. If you spent that on any ol' truck and drove it for 2-3 years youd get your money out of it.

And on top of that you are talking a classic ford truck....

I haven't read everyone's reply but I do agree with the fact that the term "worth" is hard for someone else to answer. If I was looking for a daily driver, I'm sure you could find something newer, with less wear and tear for the same price. If its something you are willing to put some time and money into, then I would jump on it. My 64 slick has some rust and needs some work and I bought it for about $1300 but I knew when I bought it it was a project that was going to take a good amount of time to the point that my now 4 year old would be helping me finish one day. But thats what I wanted. I guess it just depends on your needs. Hope I helped. Good luck.
