Paint is done!!

Thanks for the complements! I have to say it took me forever to pick a color and when I went to get it mixed at the last miniute I went one shade darker, glad everyone likes it, looks so cool with all the clear on it.....I'm in love...

Some questions...

Did you spray it yourself and if so, did you do it in your garage at home?

Max, yes I did spray it myself in the back garage. I have a 36 x 24 out back that was split in 2 so I have a workshop and a place to store/work on a vehicle. I just cleaned everything up real good, shut the overhead door down on 3 cheapy box fans, wet the floor and used plenty of tack rags. I have learned that if you clear in the early mornings bugs aren't an issue, plus it's cooler and the clear can flow out and give you a better finish. Sealer and base coats were done early afternoon and I would clear starting around 6 the next morning.
I'm happy, thru the whole process (3/4gl sealer-1 and a 1/2 gl base color and 2 and a 1/2 gl clear) I got 1 bug, a hair and very little dirt.

Yep... Would like going to that next year.

Who's skip and does he even exist, and if he does exist will he ever make it to SS?
BTW your truck is looking good, there is nothing wrong with home painted vehicles, I know a guy with a 68 Mustang that is a show winner that was home painted.

Max you can make up your own booth out of plastic sheet. With the bases and clears they have today you just need to get your color down so your happy with it then lay your clear. If you get dirt, bugs or runs you can wet sand them out after about 60 min. or so and go on. Put plenty of clear on so you can either sand and re-coat or be done and buff.
All in how much time and $$ you wanna spend.
I've only done a few cars over the years and this was my first bc/cc paint job.

Lots of good info. there as well on products and techniques.

Main reason why I nixed the idea of painting my own truck (aside from the mess) is I'm doing a metallic and that is an animal all in itself, even harder when I have no room to work with.

I do plan on painting some vintage gas pumps and a Coke machine myself though, when the slick is finished. Those I can handle.
