Advice from a previous generation

Post by Long63 »

We all have had it.
A father, grandfather, uncle, mother, aunt, etc who gives advice or has a saying that they repeat often or live by.

What have you heard?

My grandfather, who passed in 1999, often would mention that when he was a kid (1930s) the saying at the dinner table was

"He who eats the fastest, gets the mostest."

Then there is the old classic

"I brought you into this world and I can take you out!"

One of my Dad's favorite to use on me when he was in a hurry was

" If you had six years head start on the seven year itch you would still be late"

Oh yeah another one he used every spring.

"Hold this wire while I pull the rope and check for spark" that one always lead to an "enlightening experience"

My father would always say, if crying would help!, he`d cry too! :? or
it`s not the cough that carries you off!
it`s the coffin they carry you off in!

I think it had some thing to do with smokers!
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

"You can't make Chicken Salad out of chicken$hit"

one day when we were having the fifth monday that week he repeated the slogan to which I replied

"Well actually you can but it tastes like crap"

He was a tobacco chewer and lucky for my was facing away when he lost it

I have a friend that told his oldest son that one day when I was at his house. to which the kid replied no you can't look at Derrick (the younger son). No 1 son was tall and skinny No. 2 son short and fat (well hefty)
