Just thought I'd drop a note and introduce my Truck..61' short box uni. Have decided to graft a chrysler front suspension on it ( mission accomplished). Going to run a 300 from my buds 66 stepside. Doing an intake, 4 barrel, split headers and cam. Picked up a 3 speed with overdrive...still working on rear gears.( got an idea on what I need...just don't know what I GOT)...Will post pics. in "projects" soon ...P.S....GREAT GROUP..Glad to be here..

A freind of mine has a '50 Dodge pickup, and he's got a front end out of a late model Chrysler of some kind. It has opposed torsion bars instead of parallel ones and of course discs and rack and pinion. Kind of a neat set up, I thought.

I'd be interested in some pics on how you did it and how it sits and rides.

Welcome to the group, lots of knowlegable people here. Pics are a must, and tell us more about the chrysler graft, as I have one on my uni, and don't like it.

to those asking on my chrysler graft. No pics as yet. Got the itch to do it after reading some articles from Bob's F-100. SO FAR..EASY ENOUGH. My bud did his in a '66 with a 460... likes it. Hey'61 merc...what don't you like about it? Any forseeable problems? I wanted the truck to be a little more manageable for this ol guy as a daily driver with definate highway miles...sounded good to relieve straight axle, manual steering and drum brakes..

I find that the truck wallows as it travels down the highway, I have adapters on the front hubs, and I have a tough time keeping studs in them. I only broke four of them this year, half a dozen last year. My tookbox consists of a jack, box of studs and box of nuts.

It does have a soft ride, and the tortion mechanism hangs below the front bumper. I have been seriously looking at changing it over to a dakota kit, as there would be so much reconstructing to put a CV IFS in it.

Dean, are the adapters a spacer type, what are they made out of and how wide are they?

My adapters are 1" aluminium, and they were new when I bought the truck. John had cast ones that were 1/2", and I know he had problems too.
