Mounting a 79 F-100 Master Cylinder

Post by jeremyfx4 »

Well I've decided to go with the 79 f100 manual brake m/c. The rod that comes with it is way too long to work and I didn't want to cut and weld the rod so I started making a spacer today.

Welcome from your neighbor in Louisiana. Which Coldwater do you live in? Mapquest says there's two.
I'm always impressed with anyone who has fab skills like you apparently do.

Grits, I'm from the Coldwater that is about 30 miles south of Memphis, Tn. As for the fab skills, I actually have none LOL. I can draw it and machine it but when it comes to actual hand fab skills I have none.

ABA, I program and run cnc equipment, so it is nice when I have to make something for the truck, 4 wheeler, etc. But you always have some buddies that need a favor. LOL

I will amend my comments to say:"drawing and machining" skills.
30 miles South of Memphis huh? Always looking for an excuse to go to Memphis.

What Cad/Cam system are you using? I have used MasterCam since 3.0 up thru 9. Also had training in Mazatrol for Laser. What Brand of VMC did you make the spacer on?

I use solidworks for the 3d modeling and I program with Surfcam. I made the spacer on a FADAL 40x20, I also use it to program some charmille wire machines we have. Been using surfcam ever since I started in the trade and it has been really good until recently ( lots of bugs). I have a training version of mastercam that I have tinkered with, but it is so hard to go from one to the other like that.

Hey I know what you mean about going from one system to another in some cases it is that way from one version to another. Actually I prefer to work in MasterCam 3.2 to 4.0 both work on DOS based computers. Never did like the change to windows base, I have a copy of V 9 and use it for imagabuilding and other play operations I don't have access to an actual machine anymore.

no cnc back when i worked in the shop. they were just starting to appear.
i made everything by hand on the mills and lathes.

the spacer is a great idea. if i could afford a big hunk of aluminum i could make a bunch for sale on my friend's machines.

It takes a true craftsman to do good manual work CNC work while both pretty and accurate doesn't have the same soul (for lack of a better word)!

The spacer looks awesome!!! Great idea.

I've debated going to a dual Master Cylinder, but I think I'm going to keep the original one on my '61 F-250, since I'm going more on the original side on my restoration.

I used to voice that same opinion about my 66 back when I drove it. When my son started driving it first compliant he made was that it would not stop, he had been into tuners. The swap to a dual MC is much easier if you use an MC from a 68 F100 or mustang my son has done this on both the 66 and a 63. Just a matter of running a new line for the front brakes and blocking off one port on the existing tee. And of course you have to add a switch for the stoplights. All bolt on operations that can be changed back.
